We are now in Georgetown, Penang.
Picking up from where we left off!! We took a bus from Ipoh to The Cameron Highlands which took us about 2 hours. Thank god I had pants an my scarf on or id of froze when we got off the bus! Mike didnt think it was so bad but I'm a wimpy! Again a questionable hotel but hey £10 a night were never getting a Hilton!
We had a walk round Tanah Rata which is a lovely little place. There are loads of places to eat an lots of things to explore locally. By dinner time it was Baltic. By Baltic I mean 16 degrees, pants an hoody weather....yes we are still in Asia and not Wales!
We were going to go on a hike on the Monday but as I had binned my pumps about 2months ago this went out the window. We had a walk round the Agricultural technology park which was nice. It has a lots flowers, a little tea plantation, a strawberry farm an even rabbits!
After our two hour walk round the park we decided to treat ourselves to afternoon tea! We went to Lords Cafe. £1.75 for two cups of tea and two scones with cream an jam! It was perfect.
On the Tuesday we went on a trip. I had been waiting for this for ages!! We went to the tea plantation and factory, the strawberry farm, the butterfly farm, the rose farm, the bee farm, the market an we ended at a temple. Our favourite place was the the tea plantation, it was unreal! It was created by a Scottish chap in 1929 an has been there ever since. He created 3 plantations which cover over 4300 acres across the highlands. It was really interesting how they get the tea from the green shrubs into the brown tea we drink. The factory had the whole thing layed out each step.
The factory can create tea enough to fill up to 820,000 per day! The people who pick the tea pick round 100kgs per day. The tea plants that are there currently have never been changed as they live for 100-120 years. What a great investment! We had a cup of tea an a scone each (again greedy w***s) which was amazing, especially the views. The tea tastes just like home. We then had a wonder round the plantation for a bit an got back on the bus.
The butterfly, bee, rose an strawberry farms were also good to go an see. They call the highlands rose city because so many roses are grown here each year. The honey we tried from the bee farm was lovely, really fresh an sweet. Same with the strawberries, we got ice pops!
We didn't really do much on our final day in the highlands. We had a wonder round again but it rained most of the day! We met Rach an Colin for dinner as they arrived that day. Going to meet them again in the Perhenthians.
On 11th we got the bus up to Penang to the main town were we are now. The bus took round 6 hours to get there. On first sight, we loved Gerogetown!
Over the next few days in Penang we managed to get through all the main sights including the chocolate and coffee museum, the Penang History museum, the wall decorations, the green festival and all the major buildings. And the shopping centres obvcourse!! We had a walk round little India an china town as well. There are huge Indian an Chinese influences in Penang which is great because all the food is brill! We managed to have most of our meals for £4 for 2 curries, a rice, 2 shakes an 3 roti!! An Michelle we absolutely LOVE the roti! Can't get enough of it!
We were offered to be extras in the new channel 4 tv show Indian Summers with Julie Walters in. I was well game when they said we would be paid £60 a day each but Mike didn't want to do it. We also managed to get the hard drive fixed an working so all our stuff is backed up properly thank god.
On the Saturday night we met Maye an Si for a wonder round the shopping center. It was so big! Had a shop called Diamons & Platinum, safe to say Mike wouldn't let me near it.
While we were in Penang there was a Chinese parade. It was amazing! There were over 2000 people taking part in the parade and 3000/4000 people watching. There were at least 100 floats involved as well with different themes like dragons, religious people, Buddhas an all sorts. I forgot the camera so I'm sorry we have no pics of this!
We also seen another random thing one day! We walked the 3 mike round trip to the shopping centre because it was a beautiful day an you will never believe what we saw on the way home!! We were walking along chatting an the next minute this 4ft long Komodo Dragon just flopped it's self into the drains right next to us!! Couldn't not believe our eyes!!! 5 minutes later down the road we then saw a baby 2ft Monitor Lizard walking in and out of the drains! So so mad we were just gobsmacked!!
We're off to paradise tomorrow.....the Perhentian Islands! We are cheating though for the first time....we are flying!!! They wanted £32 each for an 8hour bus so we opted for the 1hr flight for £13 each!
Love you All xxxx
