Hello everyone!
Sorry it's been a while, I can't keep track of days nights even we're we are at the moment!! I last posted in Sihanouk Ville an we have done loads since then!
Our last night in Sihanouk Ville was eventful as per! Went for dinner with Josh an then out to Utopia an JJs bar. Chasing the 25 cent beers for a final time! Didn't have a bucket so to be fair wasn't too bad! Headed home early for the 9am bus to Phnom Penh.
We got the bus an it was quite nice, 6 hours later we arrived! Checked into our hotel an it was amazing!! Spent the day batting off tuktuk drivers an beggars unfortunately. We wen to see the Temple an the river front, it's so expensive here compared to Sihanouk Ville. We met Alison an Daz for a few beers in the evening, stuck to what we new an hit the Irish bar!
The next day was the Saddest day by far that we have had. Us2 Daz an Alison headed out to the killing fields and S21 the genocide museum. The killing fields was a lot smaller then I expected which made it worse because the poor Cambodian people literally couldn't do a thing when they arrived. Such a brutal place the way they killed people, men women children the lot.
We headed onto S21 which again was horrible as it was a school before it was a "holding place" for the people headed to the killing fields. The tour guide was good, she new pretty much everything we asked. Only 7 people out of 15,000 survived the S21.
That night we went to the night market, much better than in Saigon as no one hassles you! We booked a bus out to Battambang to leave next day.
So the bus took 7 hours in the end! It was Baltic. Air con worked too well for once!! It was comfy though to be fair. We arrived in Battambang and got completely mobbed by tuktuk drivers. All of them touching your arms to get your attention. One driver picked up someone else's bag an said to mike come on let's go!! Mike was like errr that's not mine cya!! Really quiet here, all closes at 10!!
We went on a bamboo train the next day, it took about an hour or so. Was through the countryside so was beautiful. Stopped at the bottom of the tracks an these two cute kids managed to sell us a bracelet each. They were so talented, they made us each a ring an a star out of bamboo leaves! They also made me a bracelet and a cricket. They were fab. We headed off to the temple after this which was a huge hike up a hill. We got to the top an the view was unreal. Could see for miles. There were wild monkeys up there too. Tiny babies to huge fat ones. After this we saw the bats leave the cave there was like a million of them. (And no I am not exaggerating!!) they come out at sun set to find fruit an the go back at sun rise. Was amazing seeing them zigzag across the sky over the paddy fields.
We met the Irish for dinner an a few drinks and booked our bus to Siem Reap.
The bus to Siem Reap was eventful to say the least. Firstly it was 45mins late which stressed me out to the max! The aircon didn't work an it leaked on mike the whole way. The chairs were really hard. But other than this.....standard Cambodian bus journey stopping every mile to pick someone up!! We arrived in Siem Reap an checked in. Hotel was really nice to be fair. Right in the centre of things. But then the blackout began! We had no electricity from 4pm at all! We headed out to watch the sun set at Ankor Watt which was beautiful. Still no electricity when we got back!!
The next day was the worst but best day we have had up to now! We got up at 4:30 to go at watch sun rise at ankor Watt an it was even better than sunset!! We had no electricity all night so didn't sleep a wink! Spent the morning at the temples, did all the big ones. The bayern temple was the best, was huge an had loads of faces in the stones. We got back to the hostel an still no electricity so we moved to a new one.
We went for lunch first an then to the bank. All 3 bank cards were declined!! The bank had blocked them! Spoke to the bank an sorted it out an checked into a new hostel. By this time I was like omg CBA I'm going home!! That night was brill! We went out with Jamie Josh Alison an Daz to a few places. Got a bit carried away an ended up not getin in till gone 3:30 so we carried on an had a pool party!
The next day was nice, we played mini golf! As you do in Cambodia obviously! We went on the Siem Reap pub crawl that night, was actually really good!! Met some nice people too!
The next few days blurred into one really, pool in the day an drinking in the night! Defo need to lay off the drinking soon! We found rice an pork for $1 each so been living on it for bit now. Said our goodbyes to Alison and Daz.
We headed to the land mine museum an mini golf again. I actually got a hole in one!! By a technicality but hey I claimed it! Really quiet night, had a nice pizza an said goodbye to Josh an Jamie!
Well today was Our first day in a month were it's only been me an Mike! We bought some little bits in the market and sorted our bus out to Laos. 5:30am pick up for a 12 hour bus journey, great hey! We chilled in the pool for a final time an headed out for dinner.
We are heading out of Cambodia tomorrow, can't believe how quickly 2 countries have come and gone!!
I'll update again after we have been to 4000 Islands as there's no internet apparently! I'll also update the pics, they are on Facebook but wouldn't load here for some reason.
Love you all xxxx
