South East Asia Adventure
Tuesday 160506 - Rio
We joined our second Tucan Tour in Rio. This is a very different tour from our first trip. There is no Peggy to drive us to our destination - no this trip is all about using local transport where available.
During our joining meeting we met up with Carmen our guide and the rest of the 19 that are in our group. They seem to be a mixture of ages mostly English with a few Oozies, Welsh and a Kiwi.
Weds 170506 Rio to Paraty
We had a private coach to take us to Paraty which is about 4 hours south along the coast. The scenary in Brazil is so different from Argentina & Chile, here it is so lush and green. Travelling along the coast was beautiful.
Paraty is a cobbled town which is preserved to ensure it is maintained for the future. At high tide the water is supposed to wash the cobbles clean - we didn't see this happen. I can tell you it is extremly difficult to walk on!
Fiona was still unwell that bad stomach was back.
Thursday 180506 Paraty
Felipe and Silvestre had recommended that was leave sailing until we got to Paraty and they were so totally right. We had a great day stopping at various Islands, diving in, and swimming to the beaches, snorkelling with loads of fish. There was lunch on the boat but Fees stomach was still not up to it.
Friday 190506 Paraty
The group decided to stay an extra day in Paraty and one less in Sao Paulo - where there had been lots of shoot outs between the Police and gangs. Fee was still unwell so Jude went with some guys on the tour to beach at Tiraddentes. The local bus was full of kids who the driver entertained by driving as fast as he could over the bumps - the kids loved it but Jude didn't.
We all went for a Thai for Johns Birthday - Fee was good and stuck to boiled rice while Jude had a wonderful meal of Coconut and Chicken Soup followed by Green Chicken Curry.
Saturday 200506 Paraty to Sao Paulo
We had another luxury coach - not sure how long this will last as other passengers had warned us that Argentina and Chile did it the best. We stopped for lunch along the way. Had a quick orientation walk in the afternoon when we continued shopping after we all split up. Sao Paulo feels uncomfortable, more so than some areas we had been to so far. The Hotel was in the heart of the gay district, so after dinner we returned to our hotel with some drinks and stayed there. We also met a guy from Milton Keynes who was on his second trip to Brazil and loved it. Fee - I didn't feel comfortable here. Lots of people watching you to see if they can take anything from you.
Sunday 2105006 Sao Paulo to Curitiba
Travelling day left early & took another Luxury Coach climbing up and inland. We passed banana plantations and huts selling them on the side of the roads. We saw a young cyclist hanging onto the back of a truck doing about 60mph - he is mad or stupid or both!
It started raining and the forecast is for rain tomorrow.
Monday 220506 Curitiba
It rained all day, not fun. We bought a cheap piece of fabric to use as a blanket on our overnight bus to Foz de Iguazu. We found out that these buses are not the luxury that we had got used to in Chilie & Argentina!
