Jambo! Yes I made it to Zanzibar!
Was relieved to touch down on Sunday morning, slightly less so when I discovered neither bags had made it in the hold. Cue a lot of form filling, ringing of the aiport and being fed false information. Was glad when I was told my bag had arrived on the 19.30 flight, then outraged when told that the airline would not pay to transport it il the next day, so if I wanted my bags tonight I would have to pay $15 myself for a taxi. This of course I did having worn the same t-shirt for 4 days (thankfully borrowed some deoderant from a swiss guy), and then only one bag turned up!! Thank god it was my bag though, not the bag of pills and pencils.
So went on a spice tour the next day (Mon), which was good - we went to different spice farms, tasted spices straight from the tree (chewing clove leaves, weird...), sampled local fruit (ranged from minging to downright tasty), has lunch in a hut then stopped at a beach for a swim (heavenly).
On the tour met Romy, a canadian teaching in Kampala and a german guy (Freddy). We had dinner in some gardens, empty by day and full of vendors at night. You pick skewers of various fish and they cook it for you, yum!
Then Tuesday heading north to Kendwa, b-e-a-utiful beach village. Freddy is also travelling alon so we've paired up to share a twin room and kept costs down :) internet is scarce (and expensive!) here so got to go - heading to Nungwi tomorrow so maybe more news from there.
Hope you're well!
