Friday's fun-filled frolics!!
Hey! Hope everyone's well. I have managed to tear myself away from Rio even though it was so much fun - but at the same time I was ready to start traveling again.
Just to update you....
We went to see a footy match in Rio's maracana stadium (which is huge!) - one of the local sides (Flamengo) against an away team I no longer remember the name of! The atmosphere was great, the fans were constantly singing and chanting which was perhaps more entertaining than the actual match!
Of course we went to see Christ the Redeemer statue overlooking Rio. Unfortuntately what should have been stunning views over Botafogo bay and Rio city were hidden by thick fog. Nevermind. We also took the cable car up to Sugar loaf mountain. No fog that day, just brilliant sunshine and clear panoramic views of the city and its beaches.
We also ended up going to see the winner's pararde in the Sambadromo whilst in Rio. The stands were packed with people dancing away as the samba schools passed by. The floats and costumes were amazing, some of them were absolutely gigantic! Fab experience.
After things had calmed down a bit after carnival, I decided to take a trip to Ilha Grande. It's such a gorgeous island - no cars at all so it's really peaceful and chilled out. The beaches are stunning, by far some of the most beautiful tucked away beaches I've ever seen. Spent alot of time swimming, lazing about and sampling the local seafood. A great place that was really difficult to leave.
Am now in a sleepy coastal colonial town called Parati, which is a few hours south of Rio. Its fairly small with pretty cobbled streets and old churches dotted here and there. Not staying long though, am off to Sao Paulo tomorrow to see an Oasis concert with some friends from our Inca Trail - should be good!!
Will hopefuly get some recent photos up soon. x
