Well i landed at Sydney and was met by marcus, who had been there a couple of days. then after a long ride to the hostel we went out for some food at the lovely Darling harbour then for a couple of drinks, locally in kingscross.
The next day we got up early and went wandering around for hours to find out about hiring cars, after alot of thought, discussing and hours we decided a campervan was certainly the way forward! Then we went to get my tongue pierced! but after a glass of wine and alot of worrying I couldnt go through with it! Apart from been scared the main reason was i wouldnt be able to talk for 3 days, eat for a week or drink alcohol for two weeks! I mean come on! Im on holiday!
So we went and got the ferry to manly and had a look around there and booked a bridge climb for the next day!
We got up really early and caught the tube to the harbour bridge to start our climb over the top of it! And guess what? it was raining! Sydney hasnt had rains for months and is on a water restriction aswell! How typical! So we got kitted out and breifed! We even had to have an alcohol test before we set off! We had yet another sexy outfit on too! Complete with the most fantasic headset! We should get these at work! they go on the top of your cheeks! And it works through vibrations, so you dont get spill or anything! Or sore ears!Someone tell Rick! Anyway we had everything strped to us, beanies, raincoats, caps, hankies! All hanging off our clothes! fetching1 Off we set, got onto the lower part of the climb, which i actually found the most scary as you could clearly see the river underneath! Anyway about ten mins into the walk along came very heavy rain and gail force winds! It was funny coz we wernt as high up as we could have been but we did have to hold on tight! Some poor people were right at the top and they said it was like a tonado! Now you have to bear in mind that Austrailia is in a drought! No rain for months and months! Most places on a high warning!
Then me and Mark climb the bridge and along comes a storm! It was funny though! The rest of the climb was cool, quite scary going up the ladders! vertical ladders that go up 50 metres!!! I didnt like that bit but the whole thing was less scary than i thought! It was an amazing thing to do and even though we were soaked we loved it!
After a pub lunch to reward ourselves we went to Bondi beach! Even though it was raining we had to as it was our last day in Sydney. The sun had come out by the time we got there but it was such a dissapointment! I mean i had been warned of this but i still needed to go and see for myself! And it was confirmed... it looked just like Scarboro! Absolutly not what either of us expected... a let down really.
The next day we got up early and went to collect our van! It was cool. Really good sound system, big beds area in the back, little kitchen thing eith gas camp stove. The sleeping bags, sheets, pillows, outdoor chairs, pans , plates etc were all brand new! It was such a good bargin from what looked like a dodgy little shop! So off we set. Our first stop was Anna Bay. This is a tiny little town, we stayed in the camp site for just 6 quid between us! Right on the gorgeous beach and by the largest moving sand dunes in the world! They go for miles and miles! I think its over 100! We were practically the only people there too, climbing up the mountainous dunes! It felt like been in the Sahara or something! Amazing place! A nice little random place to stop too. We cooked our own food in the camp kitchen and then we went to a local bar for a few drinks. Which was an experience.
We headed for Port Macquarie the next day where we stayed for the night, a lovely habourish place and a nice campsite. And guess what! After months of trying i got to go to the start gazing talk! We were strolling along the harbour when we saw some telescopes and you were allowed to look through them and we could see, the sun, moon and venus all in daylight. Very cool. Then that night we went to the local observatory, when we got there i was thinking oh no! As it looked like a church hall full of locals! But it turned out to be quite good, learnt alot about the night sky (all in the southern hemisphere though so of no use at home!) Mark enjoyed it but was probably abit bored. But i love that kind of stuff and found loads out. Really good. A funny bit though (which reminded me of something that would happen to jack and graham) was ... when the guy said any more questions? and i saw a man whisper something to his young son. Then the sin shouted out " can i see Uranus!" the dad looked mortified, didnt think he meant him to actually say it!, the guy said can you repeat that please and the dad said " he wants to see Uranus" no one laughed! Me and Mark were really trying not to! Then guy then showed them Uranus (so to speak) and the Dad kept asking loads of questions so to make it better! Hee hee hee.
We set off the next day, calling in at Cresant head where Kylies brother said there was a great surf comp... but when we got there it didnt start for a few days. But it was a lovely place and after a stroll along the beach we headed to Nimbin, the bohemian place in Oz. Had the best pizza and got drunk!!! We spent the night there, in the weirdest, League of gentleman campsite and the next morning after breakfast set off for Byron Bay. After a few wrong turns and a ride that seem to take so long for such a short way we ended up in byron Bay! And what a lovely place that is.
I thought it was gonna be really touristy, which it was but in a good way. The campsite was fab, 2 mins to the beach, the kitchen had great sea views and to top it all off Selena (who I met in NZ) was in town so we met up with her for a boozy night out. We went out with her and her Ozzie mate and went to a nice local place first full of intersting characters! Then off we went to Cheekymonkeys! The backpacker bar where people dance of tables! I wasnt looking forward to this, at my age! hee hee.But after a few drinks needless to say up on the tables we got and had a great night out! Trying to find food on the way back home wasnt easy though! No curries, kebabs, pizza or anything! and we were starving!!! Guess what the only place open at 4 in the morning was??? A bakery!!! So we had to have buns! wierd or what!
The next day i got up suprisingly early, went to get bread and milk for breakie but ended up shopping (window) for ages then went back and made breakfast. Then i went to the beach and Mark joined me followed by Selena and we spent the day just relaxing on the beach. That night we all made some food together in the kitchen and had a good chat.Unfortunalty we had to leave the next day, as we havnt got loads of time but i was really sad to leave this place, it has such a laid back atmosphere! But we were heading north to Noosa.
Now I will write the rest later as I'm sure you are all sleepy but I better mention the campervan. Mark is doing the driving but not because I can't! I have driven to the shop once! Hee hee. But he really likes driving it and I'm not that bothered so it suits us both! Plus seeing as i have only driven my car ever! And that seems like a lifetime ago! Maybe he is trying to keep me away from it!
Its only a week and abit until I'm home now! Im behind on my blog suprise suprise.
Take Care Love Emma.xxx.
