Census day in New Zealand and we are being counted here ! Intersting, as we were missed in our own census.
The fortitude and hardships endured by the pioneers, gold-diggers and their wives came to the fore again in visiting Arrowtown, a historic goldrush settlement.
Couldn't miss the excitement of the AJ Hackett Bungy Bridge, the first commercial bungy venture. Was fun to watch and the viewing platforms are great. Were not convinced that it is for us though !
The drive to Haast via the Haast pass was again amazing and spectacular. The views and the extensive lakes are just never ending. The countryside must look totally different in the rainy season or spring time though ....as can be seen bu the wide river beds and gullies.
Having arrived in Haast we went on a short walk through an estuary - a world heritage site. Really incredible to see 600 year old trees, very dense native virgin rainforest and the tiniest orchids ever. Very special place and beautifully preserved. How fortunate to be able to experience this.
Off to the glaciers in the morning !
