Berlin - 2 days
After a 6 hour train journey we arrived in Berlin - a huge train station! We arrived at the area we were staying in which looked something like a ghetto - fearful. After asking for help to find our hostel due to poor instructions we found it along with a friend - Gez from Swansea. Walking up the 2 flights of stairs in the high rise concrete block was a bit like a multi-storey car park - dirty, smelt of urine and if you touch the banister one would likely catch a disease!!! But.....inside it was really nice and very friendly, although we found the `lack of privacy` when showering was rather hilarious!!
Went on the free tour again, the sites incredible and the tour guide was lovely!!! At the beginning of the tour we were offered ponchos which everyone declined - BIG MISTAKE!!! Rain, thunder, lightening followed in huge proportions!! Not so great in shorts and strappy tops!! So when asked by lovely Tom the guide if everyone was happy to continue the tour, Pam being the only one to object was subsequently given Tom`s jacket - she cried and went red!!! The weather was on and off raining for the rest of our time in Berlin.
On the tour we got to see.....
Brandenberg Gate - in the picture, The Hotel Adlon -which the pent house costs E12,300 a night and also this is where the late Michael Jackson dangled his baby over the balcony, yes we did take a picture, The Reichstag, Hitler`s Bunker, the remains of the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, the SS Headquaters etc etc!!
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed Berlin, beautiful city and a couple of fun nights out with Gez.
photos to come.....
