Today was another driving day. Today we left Lyon for the French Riviera. Driving days basically consist of spending the majority of the day on the coach sleeping and listening to music. We have to stop every two or three hours because of Alex's driving hours so we get a couple of 30-45 minute breaks during the drive. So when we have a driving day my blog entry won't be very exciting. When we drove into the French Riviera we were all blown away. It really is a place where the rich and the famous come to play. I don't think I would even want to know what you would pay for a hotel room in some parts of this area. After we got settled into our cabins we had dinner. Bec told us to get across to the marquee at 5.15pm because there was a surprise for us. The surprise was a cocktail and frog's legs!!! Paul volunteered to go up the front and try them first. The girls gave him a traditional French hat to wear and drew a mustache on his finger. He then had to hold his mustache up to his mouth and eat the frog's legs. Then we all were allowed to go up and try some. I really wasn't too sure about them. I didn't like that you could see the shape of the frog still with its two legs and part of its body. I ended up trying a tiny piece just so I could say I'd tried them. Everyone says they taste like chicken, but I thought they tasted more like fish. After dinner we quickly got ready and hoped on the bus. We were off to Monaco and Monte Carlo Casino. On the way Bec told us a bit about the history of Monaco. We stopped at the top of a cliff that looked out over the Mediterranean Sea to take photos and were offered French champagne. From there we moved on visiting the castle, then across to the casino. There were quite a lot of steps up to the casino and my wedges were killing me! I've decided I will need to buy some more heels or wedges soon. They're a size too small and are so painful to walk in. There were so many expensive cars all around the casino. When we arrived at the casino we walked straight inside, no queues which surprised me. You're not allowed to take photos inside so we had to leave our cameras in a room to the side as you walk in. The inside of the building is beautiful. There is so much detail. The drinks are expensive so I didn't bother getting one. The toilets even self clean themselves. When you press the flush button the entire toilet seat rotates as it gets cleaned. We had a turn on the pokies but lost our money. Lucky we only put in €5. Some of the people on our tour had some good wins though, even up to just over €300. Not bad considering we were only there an hour. We didn't get much time at the casino due to the fact that it took us an hour and a half each way to drive there. The French Riviera is really pretty, especially when the deep blue Mediterranean Ocean right beside it. We saw lots of private jets, yachts and the most amazing houses and holiday homes. I can definitely see the draw card here. Tomorrow we are off to explore Nice for the day xx
