What is it with these prehistoric guys and stones? Spent today at Carnac where there are 3000 standing stones, laid out in straight(ish) lines. Walked the whole 4kms (both ways) Amazing what they managed to do 6000 years ago. Lots of theories about why they're there, from an army being turned to stone by a Pope, to their being grave markers or having treasure buried beneath them. Intended to stop at Brest, but the grey weather and the depressing, endless blocks of drab-looking appartments, put us off staying. Spent the afternoon at Oceanopolis, a big aquarium complex that, unfortunately, didn't live up to its publicity. Weather a bit patchy today. Heading for Ile Mont St Michel. After another argument with the GPS woman we finally got out of Rennes. Passed through the very picturesque village of Combourg before arriving at the tail-end of the queue for the carparking..............just a few thousand campervans and cars in the fields before the Mont. Huge thunderstorm in the night, lasted for a couple of hours. Fantastic light-show. Off for another week away, this time to Brittany. First went to Tours. A quiet day at home today. Nice sleep-in and luckily the day's hot enough to finish off the washing. Gave John a hand to re-hang his Chandalier then down to the local Tabac for lunch, but they're closed....quelle horreur!
