Fiji - 19/09 - 05/10 - 2 weeks and 2 days. Also Spent my 25th in Fiji!! Woo Haa!!!!
What a beautiful place! Took quite a bit of getting used to "fiji time" - everything is so relaxed and chilled out but after 2 weeks I didnt want to leave!
19/09 - 21/09. Stayed on the main island in a town called Nadi. Its not a great place to stay too long but I stayed at a hostel called Horizon. Met 2 irish girls at the airport, Rachel & Nicola. 2 canadian girls and Wozza, a kiwi on holiday. Spent the first few days booking my trips and had a look at Nadi town centre. Weather was poor so got bored very quickly. When the weather is raining there is nothing to do.
22/09 - 23/09 - Robinson Crusoe Island. Emma's first sight of paradise!! It was hot weather, the sea was clear and felt like I was in a hot bath! Shower's were buckets above my head which was a shock but certainly an experience! Spent the day kayaking and drank from a coconut for the first time. Met some great people and the Fijian's are lovely too. We watched the sun set which was amazing and then had a bit of a party. We palyed games and danced a lot and at midnight they turn off the electricity so we had to sit of the beach with a fire! The next we went snorkelling which sorted out my hangover but the boat ride back to main Island made me so poorly!! At Horizon they have cava nights which is where a group of Fijian men came to sing songs and drink cava. Cava is the local drink from a pepper plant which they drink and makes your tongue go numb! You have to drink it in a certain way - clap once, say "bula", drink it, clap 3 times and say "mudda". Emma became the cava princess!! They also did Fiji dancing too and Emma got roped into going into the dance competition!!!
24/09 - 28/09 Beachcomber Island - Fiji's Party Island!! And yes it was a party!! Learnt the Bula Dance which I'll show you all when I get back! We kayaked over to Treasure Island which is the next island along and palyed with turtles. We also went over to a village and saw a shell market, sat with the chief and drank cava with him. Then had a walk over to the school to see all the children hard at work. We then went snorkelling over at the cast away island where Tom Hanks did his film. The snorkelling there was amazing and 1 fish swam up to my face which made me jump!! Saw more Fiji dancers and this time fire dancers which was cool. Did some more snorkelling at Beachcomber. The evenings were spent drinking and dancing! We celebrated Serena's birthday on my last night which was fun! Met 2 girls Charlotte and Luci - you'll hear more about them later! My new found family!!!
29/09 - Horizon again. Had the blues a bit after such a brilliant time at Beachcomber but did bits and pices to get ready for my new island.
30/09 - 03/10 - Manta Ray Resort on 1 of the Yasawa islands. Got the big yellow boat up to the island which took about 3 hours and it wasnt a great trip so I didnt feel too great! Picked up Luci, Dan and Doug from Beachcomber. The owner's son of Manta Ray was over as it was his birthday and was having a party there. After dinner he made a speech and said it was his birthday, I piped up and said that it was my birthday too so free drinks, dancing and drinking cava with the fijian lads again!!! We also went over to another village called soso which means opening of the pacific. It was a sunday so it was very quiet but saw the chief's house which was much bigger than everyone else's! Played with the children who loved their pictures being taken. Ate the freshest banana's Ive ever had. Manta ray is called manta ray as they have them swimming around the island. I didnt get to see any but on the way back I mentioned how dark the sea gets and I said to Luci - have to seen open water - the shark film. As she said no I saw a ripple in the water and a fin come up! My mouth dropped but thankfully was only a manta ray. Im quite glad I didnt get to see any to be honest!! Over the 3 days I was at Manta ray, it was over cast and rainy so I prayed and prayed that my birthday be nice and low and behold the morning I woke it was beautiful hot weather and not a cloud in the sky! My birthday morning was spent by the beach sunbathing and paddling with the fishies. Dan and Doug had come back from the main island as Dan was about to get blood poisoning from a a wound on hos leg that hadnt cleared up. So Me, Luci, Dan and Doug spent the afternoon drinking their local rum, Bounty. The evening they arranged a bonfire party for me after me and Dan had got everyone up doing the Bula Dance! It was a brilliant day and happy I had such a fantastic 25th birthday!
04/10 - Back in Nad sorting out my last few bits and pieces!
