I have just got back from an AMAZING safari!!
We spent 5 days in the Kruger National Park and were incredibly lucky. We saw all of the big 5 (buffalo, lion, leopard, elephant and rhino) on the first day. We also had many very up close encounters! Within 5 minutes of entering the park, an elephant threatened to charge us. In the back we were oblivious and wanting it to get closer, until a ranger car came out of nowhere, chasing the elephant off. We later learnt from our guides he was giving all the warning signs of a charge!! We also had a fantastic viewing of a leopard, which was sat up on a dead tree, in perfect view, it was absolutely beautiful! The animals were all very comfortable with the vehicles, so they just come right up to you. We even had lions using our car as shade to sleep in at one point. I was also really lucky to see lots of babies; rhinos, elephants, zebra, giraffe, warthogs, even cheetah cubs!
We went on a night drive which was great as we got to see some of the nocturnal animals. We also did a bush walk which was a totally different experience as we got to really walk amongst the animals. We got right up close to rhinos, hippos and a lion! It was pretty scary, but also a fantastic experience. We also saw a cheetah on the drive to where we did the walk which was great. The park is huge (the size of Wales) and there are only 200 cheetahs, so to see 3 was incredible!
We were staying in luxury camping accomadation. We were in a tent, but the campsite had a pool, and nice toilets and showers, and even a bar with a terrace overlooking the hippo pool so we could have a cider every night and watch the hippos, and the other animals coming down for a drink.
I took lots of photos so will try and put some of them up at some point as a picture speaks a thousand words! The park itself was also beautiful, as it is the rainy season, everything is lush and green, and they have fantastic sunsets and sunrises (which we were up for every morning!) My group are also lovely, so all in all a fantastic time.
