So we are in Queenstown at the moment, its pretty cool here. Very busy with tourists but a neat little town. We are staying with Krisy's brother Sam and his girlfriend Nerolee, and they have an amazing house overlooking the Ski fields here. Although there is no snow at the moment, its still pretty awesome.
So my last entry was at Franz Josef before I climbed the glacier. Doing the walk was brilliant. It was spectaular to walk on the ice and see all the formations. Peter wasnt up for it so I went with a girl in our hostel, also called Emma! We were in the middle pace group which was perfect for taking photos. Our tour guide Karl was really cool too and went off on his own route, so we werent waiting for the other groups all the time. Although it is very touristy and there are lots of people on the ice at the same time and helicopters flying above you, towards the end of the day it got quite peaceful and the scenery was awesome. We went through caves and through cravesses and over cravasses. I have some really cool pictures, but havent got all my stuff to upload them so you'll have to wait for them folks! Im really glad I did the whole day walk it was brill, but i can still feel it in my legs 2 days on!! They were pretty painful!
So after the glacier and a good nights sleep we headed down to Wanaka, a really picturesque place on a big lake surrounded by mountains. It was a beautiflu drive there and we saw a fair bit of snow up on the tops of the mountains. The weather has been really good tho, pretty hot, although not as hot as the mount. Managed to do a bit of sunbathing in Wanaka. Bumped into a guy that i did sailign with in the bay of islands over 3 and a half months ago which was pretty random, but met him and some of his friends in the eveining for a drink. Then the next day we went to puzzling world, a centre with a big maze and illusion rooms, good photos from there. They had a room that was built with a tilt, it was really trippy! And we were all falling over and lookign tipsy, it was pretty funny. And me and Emma beat the other guys we had met in the maze too although Peter insists that they were doing the harder challenge - whatever!!
So after Wanaka we headed down to Queenstown, which was only a short drive (1hr30) over a mountain pass. Good brakes needed!! We headed over to Sam and Nerolees, and Nerolee the star had cooked us a roast!! So amazing after pretty much living off pasta and cheese! Saw Krisys other brother Mike and Joe who I went to the Chemicals with and we drank a fair bit of Whiskey sat under the stars!
So the next day we headed off to the Milford Sounds which are the fiordlands on the South West coast. We managed (after quite a drive) to get a cruise at 4.30 which was really good as it was pretty quiet at that time. We headed out down the Sounds to the Tasman sea. The scenery again was just amazing, but the highlight was seeign Dolphins. And we were at the front of the boat and the dolphins were swimming right below us. I managed to get video, and it was just so cool! We also saw soem seals lazing on the rocks. It was pretty magical. And then the boat went under a waterfall where we got drenched!! But it was amazing, maybe one of the highlights of the trip so far.
So, everythign is pretty much uptodate. We are back in Queenstown for St Patricks day. Have just had a Ferg burger, which are the BIGGEST burgers you have ever seen. They are massive! And this afternoon we are hoping to do the Shotover Jet which is a speed boat which goes down the river, looks pretty exhilirating! then we are heading over to Dunedin tomorrow to see the wildlife on the Otago Peninsula where there are Penguins!! Really hoping we get to see one as I would be tres excited!
Well better go, sorry theres not a lot of personal emails going on, but hope you're enjoying the blog. Miss everyone loads but having a ball. I dont want to leave NZ!! xxx
