Why hello there!!
Well this will be my final entry as I only have a week left so I can fill you in face to face with that!
Since my last entry we have moved from the western islands of Southern Thailand to the East side. We got yet another mini van followed by bus followed by boat followed by yet another mini van to get to Koh Samui from Krabi. We stayed in a lovely beach front resort and spent a week there soaking up the sun and shopping! Koh Samui was a lot more built up and crowded than anywhere else we had been but it was quite nice to be involved with some civilization again! While we were there we visited a temple called 'The Big Buddah' which literally was a massive buddah built at the top of some steps. We tried to walk up to get an up close look by I was told off by a monk because I had bare shoulders - I know, what a hussy!!!
Our next Island was Koh Phangnan which was only a 40 min ferry which was seriously rough McGee! We did our usual again and hiked around Haad Rin (commercial area where full moon parties are held) to find the best place for our budget. We got an absolute beauty with a massive pool right on the beach. Our hut was on the beach too and we had a big balcony with a hammock. Turns out I needed that hammock more than I first thought as Ryan decided to lock us out at 3am one night! We woke the staff to be told they had no keys until the morning and everything (money, phone, water) was in the pissing locked bungalow. In the end I slept in the hammock and Ryan sat up with a stray cat (Anne) on his lap keeping watch until 7am!
We spent most of our nights drinking on the balcony playing poker and a little chess. Our days were spent mainly by the pool although I did involve myself in a 2 hour Yoga class - good god, never again!!
We spent 5 days there. Haad Rin was again a busy little town with dodgy electricity wires, loads of touristy shops, bars and restaurants everywhere. We were staying on the quieter side which was a hit. We loved it. On our last night it was 'The Black Moon Party' basically a celebration of no moon as apposed to the famous 'Full Moon' parties. We headed down there about 1am to see what all the fuss was about and stayed a little longer than intended! It wasn't as busy as I thought it would be but apparently Full Moon gets a lot busier. We danced on the sand to booming dance tunes and saw some nutters jumping through fire hoops. It was good but a bit of a let down I say!
Due to the 'Black Moon' excitement we missed out ferry to the next Island the following morning!! We were supposed to be picked up at 7.30am for our ferry…. We woke up at 9.30 am Whoops!! The travel lady was pretty good she got us on the later ferry that day with the same tickets so no harm done!!! We made it to the next island - Koh Tao.
We are staying in Sairee Beach which is the main beach on the island. After getting a cab to the beach (in the back of a ute) we again marched up and down viewing all the bugalows until we found the best and yes ladies and gentlemen we did it again - yet another beauty! On our 2nd day we rented a quad bike and drove all around the island which was great, it is such a beautiful island and we saw dome awesome places. We drove up into the mountains and stopped at a wicked hilltop resort with fab views, we saw a whale skeleton up there (good knows how that got there!!) and we went to some secluded little bays. We also went to a mini golf park that was owned by an English guy. After a nail biting game of golf we stayed there all day propping up the bar befriending the barman. We were very worse for wear after that!!
We also went to 'The Queens' Ladyboy show which was really good. They took Ryan backstage and dressed him up to join in with the finale…. Well whn Abba's 'Dancing Queen' started and all the Ladyboys came out I didn't even recognize him shaking his stuff up there in a skirt (with his boxers poking out the bottom), bra and afro wig- That's my boy!!! We then befriended a guy from Brighton who was the boyfriend of the main Ladyboy. They invited us out so off course we joined them for the rest of the night drinking our way threw buckets of Samson (Thai Rice Whiskey) in 3 different party bars… Oh lord it was messy but well worth it.
Since that night we have been chilling out a bit. Our resorts restaurant has a big open air screen on the beach where they show movies each night so we have done that a few times while in detox! Last night we went to a fantastic Tapas place with the best food I have had all year which was delightful mmmmm!
We leave Koh Tao tomorrow, we get a boat to Chumporn then a Bus or 7 hours up to Bangkok. We are spending 2 days in the 'Koah San Road' area and doing all the touristy stuff and then the end of our trip is unknown to me… For Christmas Ryan has a surprise for me for the last 2 nights oooooooo I'm so excited. I'll fill you in when I'm back.
I hope you have enjoyed the ride over the past year. I know I have, it has been an amazing experience that I will never forget - I have had the time of my life but am really looking forward to seeing you all again.
Happy Christmas
Love Loz
