Arrived in Bern yesterday, had a wander around the town - shared another sausage and 1st Swiss toblerone, went down a treat! Had bit of a trek to the hostel, nowhere near as nice as Zurich but think thats going to be hard to beat! Went on free tour of parliament building after dropping off our bags, was really interesting and very pretty - fab ar5chitecture and great ceiling paintings. Met a girl from Washington in the hostel - Michelle - she was lovely and we spent the evening just chatting with her, was nice and chilled. 1st impressions were that its not as nice as Zurich, but then it is the capital and I think there is a lot of money in Zurich so its kept nicer. Shared the room with 2 people last night (Brazilian we think) and the girl snored aaaaalllllll night, and was chatting away in her sleep! However we must have scared them off as we have the room to ourselves tonight!
Today we spent the day with Michelle touring around the city. Visited the cathedral, Einstein museum (really good, very interesting), and the bear pits. They are such amazing animals, bit cruel to see them shut in a pit but they seem happy enough, and they get fed all day (life of luxury if you ask me!). The reason they´re there is because the founder of Switzerland killed a bear before any other animal on arrival to the city so its kind of sacred to it.
Its got a great river, so so clear you couls swim in it! We looked over a bridge and saw a moped at the bottom, got pics of that!
We did Michelle a deal, she had loads of bags so we offered to help her carry them if she´d let us use her laptop to upload pics!! We went to Starbucks as the wireless connection was free and thats how we uploaded the pics! Was actually a really nice evening, got to see some pics of Michelles life too.
