Hi Everyone! So we've now done South Island and are back in the north spending those 10 days we were going to go to Fiji (check that spelling Dad!) driving around the north island again but this time going south of Auckland only. We really liked South Island, there's a more to look at in the way of mountains, and bars.... We headed down the west coast past the Pancake Rocks, down to Haast - met up with some of our South Aerica travelling buddies there, fell out with there hotel manager and had to leave (clearly there had been a little alcohol drunk by all parties, but the less said about that the better!)
We had a camper van the whole time we were in south island which I'd insisted on getting and loved but by the end it was driving Christain nuts - he kept banging his head, but he coped very well. After Haast (which was not worth the visit except for meeting our buddies) we went to Wanaka where we both did a skydive. I wasn't really nervous but felt a bit travel sick because it was a really small plane we went up in. Christain went first, but he's a pro having done one before in Nottingham years ago. Then it was my turn and i'd not really given the whole jumping out of a plane at 9000ft much thought so clearly it came as a bit of a shock to find myself hurtling towards the ground at 120mph. The video make for some hilarious viewing and i'm going to make you all watch it when i get home, you lucky ducks.
From there we went to Queenstown which is 'party central' supposedly anyway. We went out for cocktails at the Minus 5 vodka bar, which is all made of ice - even the glasses are actually ice. Then for a nice dinner, cooking in the van was getting a bit tiresome! It was all going so well, so civilised but usual scenario we hit some more bars, got chatting to some Irish lads and crawled back to the van at 9am. We ended up staying 3 nights there, it was a lot of fun!
My money's running out on the internet now so i'll have to update this and tell you all the rest about south island soon ......to be continued.........
