Good afternoon all!
Just a quick update to say I am in Calgary staying with Katharina and her lovely boyfriend Graeme. They have a really nice flat here in Calgary near the University where they are both studying and their flat is all decorated for Christmas... I am feeling christmassy too now :-)
There's not much to see or do here. The main advantage of living in Calgary is it's location, only an hour or so away from the Rockies so skiing every weekend! I chose a good weekend to come though as they were hosting the Grey Cup yesterday which is apparently the Canadian equivalent of the Super Bowl so a massive deal! It's only in Calgary every 10 years I think. People from all over the country had come to Calgary to watch the game and soak in the atmosphere. Kat and Graeme's window actually looks onto the stadium so we were right in the middle of it all and it was a great atmosphere. Graeme went to the game so Kat and I wandered around town and around the park catching up and then we went to a small cosy British style pub for a few drinks to watch the beginning of the game (After Kat explained the rules it made it so much easier to follow and I actually enjoyed watching it!!)
After the first quarter we went back to the flat to have some wine and chinese food and watched Good Will Hunting. Overall it was a nice chilled afternoon and evening which is exactly what I needed after the last few busy days in Banff!
This morning I walked to Uni with Kat and Graeme to check out the sporting facilities. They have the ice rink from the 1988 Olympics so their sports building is huge and the uni is known for it! It has a massive gym on 2 floors and a running track and of course the ice rink. The ice rink gets used by athletes to practice for world cups etc... so this morning I watched the skaters from around the world practice for the 2010 Olympics. There were the French, the Germans, Kazakstan, Swiss, Korea... etc... It was really impressive watching how fast they get!
Anyway, that is all for Calgary so far. Thinking I might head into town this afternoon and have a wander. Not looking forward to having to get up at 3 or 4am for my flight to Quebec tomorrow though :-S
TTFN!
