Ellen's Mini Adventure!
Well....we have been working our way around the island of Koh Phangan, starting off with four days in the beautiful South East bay of Hat Rin Nai. This is the buzzing capital, and is where all young travellers come when on the island. Its where all the parties, shops, banks, post offices, restaurants and pubs are, and so we stayed here for a few days, got some washing done by a sweet little Thai lady, it only cost 50 Baht....about 60p....to get practically my whole back pack done- so not bad, shame i cant fit her in my rucksack with her washing machine and nice washing powder as well!!!!, and i met up with some friends from uni who are also travelling, and we suitably over indulged and bust some moves on the Thai dance floor!!! ha ha
From there we made our way via a very bumpy, sandy, rubble track to a bit further up the East coast, to a bay called Haad Sadet....absolutely beautiful, and we had what was basically our very own private beach, and beach bungalow. It was stunning, and the pictures will show it better. Also based here are some of the islands best waterfalls, all the Thai royal family go to them apparently, so we paid them a visit on our second afternoon.....and they were fantastic....so much fun...and again plenty of pics taken, so will send them back soon! I did manage to make my way quite far up the waterfall, but fell a lot of the time, so ended up crawling as it was pretty slippy, but very funny, and stunning views from the top!
From here we caught a boat bus (much like the average bus at home, only your in the middle of the sea flagging down a passing boat to give you a ride!!! ha ha) Also a funny sight as we had our back packs on top of our heads so as not to get them wet.........and this boat took us to the beautiful beach of Ao Thong Nai Pan Yai....a stunning 1 mile long beach, quite family orientated with kids around, but we had a FANTASTIC bungalow, 20 steps from the sea, and the views are pretty impressive! All these beaches on the East coast are perfect for watching the sun rise....however, as you know, i love my sleep so didnt quite manage to get up for them....whoops! Sure there are plenty more sun rises to come though!
After two nights here, we made our way via boat and road to our final destination on the island- Haad Yao. This bay is on the West coast, and is world known for being an excellent diving and snorkelling site. Again a beautiful beach....they just keep getting better.........and on our second afternoon, we rented snorkel gear....flippers included ha ha....and headed out on our own coral and fish spotting...it was so much fun, and a highlight in itself, as we really ventured into deep water and saw some amazing coral and underwater life......(Dani, wouldnt Benny be proud of me, make sure to tell him!!!!).....and then, we went and bought some bananas and took them into the deep waters and slowly started breaking pieces of the banana into the water as someone had told us the fish love it......and they do!!! They were practically taking the banana out of our hands, and were swarming around us for ages....wow....just a shame my camera isnt waterproof.........but i will certainly not forget it.....we could hear them eating under the water as well which was strange...........
Unfortunately been no phones or internet on this island, and if there is it is sparse, so have not had a chance to phone home since last week, but we arrived back in Bangkok this morning at 5am!!!! ....after what can only be described as an 'interesting' overnight coach journey........cramped as we had the back seats which didnt recline......but met some funny Aussie guys so they made the journey far more entertaining!!! ha ha.
We have checked into a hotel in the popular Koh San Road....although that was a mission in itself as at 5am not many places have vacant rooms....but we found a nice one called Nana Inn.......and we are only here one night before we get an overnight train tomorrow up to Chang Mai, Northern Thailand.......and that is where the relaxing stops and the trekking starts again.......am so so so looking forward to it!!!
We went to the Laos Embassy this morning, as it is based in Bangkok, and it was the only Visa i could not get before leaving home as we dont have a Laos embassy in England.....it was so easy.....so i am now officially allowed in all the countries on my trip, and Laos is my next country after Thailand has been fully explored!!!!
The tan is coming on nicely, and without even trying i seem to have been catching it at every opportunity, although doubt there will be much chance of catching the rays from the jungle of Northern Thailand!!
Right, i best be off, as there is some last minute shopping to be done in the haven that is Bangkok, and also want to get my Thai pics onto cd so i can show you some of the things ive been doing!
Take care all, keep the emails coming, they're great!
Love me xxx
