Ellen's Mini Adventure!
Well well well................where to start on the beautiful Ayres Rock, Kings Canyon and my personal favourite the Olgas!
Ive had the most fantastic 3 day tour, which started last Friday when i was picked up from my hostel in Alice Springs at 6am!!!!
We had a 5 hour drive to Kings Canyon, the most amazing rock formation, where we did a 3 hour trek up and into the Canyon, the views were fantastic and it is hard to believe that this massive creek was created through a river of water which parted the rocks.....is amazing.
From here we drove a little further and set up camp...........i slept in a swag........and watched the stars....all night! WOW!...........We made a mammoth fire, and drank wine, and settled in for the night.......Central Australia is sooooooo much colder than the North and had to buy myself a hoodie for the first time in 7 months, but was loving the chill in the air and the swag was so warm, it was a memorable experience!
We woke on saturday morning- FREEZING!!!!! Sod the 'nice chill in the air' i was bloody cold and we jumped back in the bus and drove to a spot to make brekkie......Adam our ace tour guide told us to walk up the hill near by while he set up the tea and coffee.....and there, at the tip of the hill......i had my first glimpse of Ayres Rock! WOW......what a beautiful sight, even at 6am, it was beautiful, from quite a distance, the rock still glowed, cant wait to get there and have a good walk around!
Today is set aside for a walk through The Olgas.....as we enter Kata Tjuta National Park.....now, there is SO much history behind this place, which i wont bore you all with, but would highly recommend that if you get a chance to read about this aboriginal culture that you do. It is a fascinating read!
The Olgas......nothing, not even the pictures of this place, can explain how beautiful it is. We did a 9km walk around and every corner i turned i was witnessing something new and exciting. Every angle looked like a postcard, or something from Lord of the Rings....it was so beautiful i did the walk in silence, just amazed at where i was, and what i was seeing, you couldnt dream about this, and here i was walking through rock formations and trees and nature that told so many stories....sounds corny i know, but it was impressive!
This evening was set aside for Ayres Rock sunset.........who'd have thought a rock could turn so Orange!!!! Was beautiful, but my heart was still in the Olgas, although the sunset was quite a sight, it was a little touristy, but was so glad to have made it here, this is a central point on my trip, and it was a great evening, more sleeping in swags and setting up campfires and cooking camp grub!!! Like being back in the girl guides!! ha
Last day today and we head to watch the sunrise over the Rock....unfortunately a little cloudy, but beautiful all the same, and we then endured the 9.4km base walk........it is a fascinating creation by nature, and every side of the rock is different to the last......beautiful!
Then we head to a camel park where i saw my first Aussie kangaroo....wooo woooooo and then the best bit of the tour.........we head into the bush and dug for Witcherey Grubs!!!!!! Like authentic aboriginals we dug and poked around in bushes searching for these bloody things........and did we find one....NO!!!! I was really looking forward to giving them a taste as well, oh well, will have to look on my own, never know when i wont be able to afford a meal and witchery grubs will be my only option!!! ha
So.....next stop....SYDNEY!!!!!! Where i am meeting Sue and Vicky (Moody) (two girls from uni........).....am SO excited.........bring it on!!! Then we are road tripping for 4 weeks........causing havoc up the East coast........will update soon, until then, hope you are all well, and will speak to you soon xxxxxxxx
