The Bowman Adventures
We've had a wk of adventures, the biggest challenge the best "walk" in New Zealand -the tongoriro crossing. However, when faced with a strong south westerley wind and meeting snow and ice at the top it was more like a mountain climb -one fellow hiker even got his ice pick out -we skirted on round him in our haste to get to the top. However judging by the no. of times we slipped over this was not the wisest move expecially when the cloud cleared to reveal steep drops either side of the track. We decided to go down on all fours! Wellington doesn't quite look like the postcard today unfortunately, we've been greeted by a day of rain. Never mind -we did the museum thing for a couple of hrs, fed ourselves and then came across the "Dog and Bone". No longer having to worry about driving Mindy we tried a bit of mid afternoon drinking. Yesterday was spent hiring more mountain bikes (having got over the previous injuries). There were a choice of levels so we opted for the medium loop up Boulder Hill. Well lets just say it was a job to walk to the top - we were almost rock climbing again! Our adventures always seem hilarious the next day.................. Ed's sought out the only Indian he cd find for tonight so lets hope he's not let down by their hot madras...he's been thinking about it for a week. We've said farewell to Mindy and can stand up straight again so off to Gail and Bas's now. They say they've plenty planned for us (starting with a Volleyball match -Ed's tempted to pull the groin inujury excuse out the bag but I'm not having any of it).
Love to you all
Ruth and Ed
