Ed's Travels
Hello everyone. As you will see again i have uploaded a ton of new photos. As i have not had a chance to update for a while i am going to break what i have done into smaller chunks which will be easy to read. I have just arrived in Puno but as i need to catch up on my journal entries here goes. This entry is about Arequipa.
Last time i wrote i was in the hotel in Nasca about to embark on the long overnight coach trip. And was it long. We eventually arrived in Arequipa at about nine in the morning and were told by Jose that the best thing to do to acclimatise to the high altidude would be to go to bed for a couple of hours. So we all went off to bed for a couple of hours and then about midday some of decided to go and see the sights of Arequipa. We headed for the St Catalina convent which was bang in the centre of town. We hired a local guide when we got there and she showed us around. It is an absolutely vast area and felt like a self contained town. The tour was really interesring and lasted about 2 hours. When we left we decided to find a small place for lunch, and that we did. We had a really good 2 course meal and a drink all for the grand price of 1 pound. Just as we were about to leave a cooking class started which we were invited to stay and watch. This we duly did and then at the end we were given a full plate of the meal each for free. It was a great afternoon. On the way bach to the hotel we briefly popped in to look around the cathedral which was also very impressive.
We then all had another earl night because we had to leave the next morning (thursday) at 7 becasue of another long drive this time to Chivay right up in the hills.
