I spent today walking around to the other sights here. Bibi-Khanym mosque, named after one of Timur's wives. The place was finished in the early 1400s but collapsed in an earthquake in 1897. Recently restored. You do realise ALL the buildings here are highly restored. Some as recently as 2005. Ive been wanting to see the Registan since I first saw a picture of the place. The place is amazing and that is why you are getting a whole thread on it. They are supposed to be the oldest preserved medressa's in the world, anything older having been destroyed by our old mate Jenghis Khan. Emir Timur is pretty famous around here and so is his grandson Ulugbek. Between both of them they built, started or at least had something to do with most buildings around here...

The cheapest way to Lake Aidarkul is by share taxi. From here to Navoi, then another to Nurata. Then you gotta hire the whole taxi to Yangikazgan and hope they come back the next day to pick you up again. It was a major slave trading post. Today it is a museum city. It has been over run by every man and his dog over the years and most of what is standing is from the last 400 years and some is only about 100 years.
