Alright, so we've had issues with internet. Trying to find wi-fi that is strong enough as been a challenge. On the other hand, we've been having a wonderful time touring around new places and meeting all sorts of interesting people. So, the last time I wrote an entry, we were in Helena, Montana, and the next day we travelled to Glacier national park, spent time admiring such a beautiful park and spent the night there in a lovely campground. The following day, we travelled on the Going-to-the-sun pass in Glacier park and continued on to Idaho for the night. We then crossed over to Washington state and were amazed at the vast open land with the beautiful mountains in the background. I think we actually saw more horses in Washington than in Montana. We found our way to Seattle and chose to spend a few hours walking around downtown. We went for ice cream on the pier, I had Huckleberry (my new favorite) and then went to walk around Pike's market. We had plans on going to see the space needle, as we've heard how wonderful it is, but when we got close to it, it just seemed a lot smaller than we had expected. Instead, we crossed over to Bainbridge island by ferry and spent the night in a campground right on the beach. The next day, Wednesday, we took the ferry to Victoria, B.C., getting back on homeland. While we were on the ferry we witnessed a submarine rise out of the water and just sit there for a while, quite amazing. When we arrived at the border crossing in Victoria, we were asked if we had any fruit/vegatables/meat/eggs in our trailer, usually we are quite careful not to have any of those things, but this time we had completely forgotten. As the border patrol officer was helping us empty our fridge, he says "you people are worse than the americans", we got quite a giggle out of that.
Victoria was stunning, we went to visit Craigdarroch Castle and then found a spot to spend the night. Thursday morning we drove to Sidney and rode our bicycles around town, stopping at a bakery for treats because it had a donut in the window that was the size of a dinner plate. Sidney was gorgeous, we can see why people love to retire there. We carried on to Nanaimo, which was lovely but didn't have the same beauty as Victoria and Sidney. We spent the night in Nanaimo and this morning took the ferry across to Vancouver where we drove to Surrey to pick up my mom and take her for lunch and a nice visit. We later drove to Port Coquitlam, or PoCo as the locals call it, to visit with Harry's sister Lorine and her husband Bill and Bill's brother David, wife Mika, and their daughter Annalise. We had a delightful meal with all of them as well as some entertaining conversation. It was a hot day today, but apparently we are expected to go through some hotter weather on the way home. All in all, it was a wonderful day, and we very enjoyed visiting with family that we hadn't seen for a while.
Now, we start our return home tomorrow, we plan on travelling on the Trans-Canada all the way back and stopping to see some Canadian scenery. Hopefully I'll be able to make one more entry before we make it home, but of course that depends on the internet. Hope all is well with everyone, please leave us a message, and we should be home by Wednesday, July 1st.
