Hi all!!
Yet another rushed blog post I'm afraid, and we're getting the pics up as fast as possible! (extremely slowly!)
So to continue on from the last post, we left Australia Zoo and headed up towards Hervey Bay which is where you can get trips and ferries over to Fraser Island! We found that there were very few options when it came to Fraser Island, and unless we had a 4x4 or hired one, the only option was to get a day trip over there. The trip actually turned out to be well worth the money. The guide was great and we learnt a lot about the history of the island, as well as seeing the amazing sights! Lake McKenzie was absolutely fantastic. Its a lake with crystal clear fresh water and white (pure Silica) sands! I ventured in but it was extremely cold, so I didn't last long!! Becky dabbled her feet also!! Fraser Island was one of the highlights of our trip, but we wished we could have stayed there longer!!
After we left Hervey Bay, we headed towards the Whitsunday Islands, via Bundaberg, Town of 1770, Gladstone, Rockhampton, Mackay, and Eungella National Park. At Eungella we went searching for the extremely rare Platypus... and found one!!! :)
After arriving at Airlie Beach (the main port for the Whitsundays) we scoped out the available trips. After weighing the options and the prices, we decided that the best way to see the islands was to spend one night and two full days in a resort on Long Island, and then do a day trip which would include Whitehaven Beach and Snorkelling the Reef! The resort was fantastic, after eating in the van for two weeks, a delicious buffet was a welcome change :) and chilling out (literally, see pics :) ) in the Hammocks outside our beachfront room was kinda cool too! The day trip was also great, whitehaven beach is amazing, again white silica sands!! And the snorkelling was stunning! (hopefully some pics soon). We didn't want to leave the Whitsundays but times-a-ticking as the van has to be back on Friday!!
We are now heading towards Townsville, which will be our penultimate stop before Cairns, where we sadly have to leave the Campervan :( .
Hope everyone back home is enjoying the British Summer :) !!
Will update again soon!!
