We arrived in buenos aires after the most horrific bus journey across the border to Argentina. No water, no stops, a severely vibrating bus and and engine that screamed continuoisly. The only reprieve we received on arriving to BA was a hot breakfast with eggs and bacon and not a piece of cake in sight!
Ba was a delight, full of interesting streets and neighbourhoods with amazing shops and cafes. Little streets of brightly coloured houses backing onto antique shops, streets full of flamenco dancers, amazing street aritsts and jot street food making the air smell delicious. We had a great time exploring and enjoying the city! Even managed to do some running (got to try getting rid of brazil bellies at some point) and walking in the beautiful nature reserves.
Had the most amazing night out on the town at la cabrera restaurant with the Gilers (chris and Catherine) with the biggest most amazing steaks! Derek managed to finish his 800g steak and polish off everyone else!
A night of dancing till 5 am was followed by the worst hangover yet!
We stayed in ba for a few days then hopped on the ferry over to Uruguay. Stayed in colonia, a pretty but pretty boring town, just a good place to get over the illness picked up in Argentina! Punta del este was the next stop,a classy shiney metropolis that was completely dead! Empty but had beautiful beaches!
We took a cycle along the beach, the only people for 20 miles and we still managed to crash into each other and end up face planting into the surf nearly loosing my glasses to the Atlantic Ocean!
We continued our ride around the headland to the river mouth, it was at this point we fully appreciated how covered in sand we really were. We decided to get the salt off in the fresh water so off we cycled into the water, giving the bikes and ourselves a good dunking! The locals were stood watching us like we had escaped from a secure home.
Next we headed to the capital montevideo to join our conecting flight to manaus in Brazil. Montevideo was just another bland city, but we did get a free concert from the carnival singers practicing in the street next to our hostel. We took what we thought would be a quick walk along the water front to find some dinner, it turned out to be a marathon 10km hike with nothing along the water front other than the occasional runner!
We were not sad to say goodbye to Uruguay, but getting very excited about the jungle to come!
