UB Camp 3 to UB Camp 4
First section is still really sandy but by lunch-time it's started to harden with a subsequent increase in speed I start to stand up for the first time. The F800 is much more stable when you're on the pegs, it's quite different than the 1150 I guess because it's so much lighter. When you're sat down the front moves around all over the place but as soon as you stand up the front stabilises which allows you to maintain more speed which in turn stabilises the front end and so on. The road is now becoming fun to ride and again, a bit lucky I admit, I manage to stay on. Tony comes up with another good campsite by a lake in a nature reserve. I have a good look at the lake for signs of fish life and see none so I don't bother to get the rod out. I must check on the web to see if there's any reference on the web to fishing, seems odd but there doesn't seem to be any life at all. We accepted the guides offer to do a traditional Mongol barbeque so an hour later they return with a live goat and kill it just behind my tent, nice! Following butchering they stuffed the meat and some vegetables into a milk churn and put it on an open fire, having first locked the lid on the churn using a selection of wooden wedges. After several steam explosion events the guys watching the cooking retire to save distance and about an hour and half later the barbie is served. It's a tough as old boots but I must say the bits you could eat were very tasty, I guess the moral of the story is if you want a Mongolian barbeque make sure they cook the meat for at least three hours.
