So after 4 night in phi phi, we were ready to leave and find something new.
Seeing as we were with climbing keeno Ed Cromwell, we decided to head to Railay which is a remote bay on the mainland (you have to get a boat to it even though it's on the main land). Railay is worldwide famous for it's rock climbing.
So we got a boat there and sorted out accommodation. £2.50 each for a room with air con, fridge, and tv! Cheapest yet! Then in the evenings we mostly always ate an unlimited BBQ and buffet for 180 baht (£3.60), cheap again seeing as we got our money's worth!! We ended up staying there for 5 nights!!
On the first day we all went looking for a hidden lagoon! Sounded amazing, but as it had rained it was so slippery and more of a climb and only some old rope that were tired to the rocks! It was too dangerous for the girls, so boys being boys we left them to find the lagoon! It was a hard climb down, and lots of over hangs that we just had to swing down on ropes. Either way it was worth it! Easily the most beautiful place I've ever seen (followed closely by bamboo island)! Completely closed lagoon with greeny blue water, with a vertical cliff all the way round about 150m high! Trees and bushes growing all the way the vertical faces and the vines dropping all the way down! So amazing, and almost certainly going back there before I die!! The climb back up wasn't that bad either!
The following day we hired out some rock climbing gear and gave it ago. Got fairly hooked! Its something that I think would be alot easier if I was a skinnier build, but I told Cromwell that I would definitely go with him to cheddar when im back!
Railay also had some of the nicest beaches as well. Matt, Ed and I would go out swimming round the headland, and climb the bottom of the sheer vertical rock faces....and then just jump off into the water! Great fun. Cliff jumping for free!
Railay was so nice after all the tourism on phi phi. So quiet and relaxing, apart from climbing which was knackering!
We left ed yesterday, he's off to meet up with his girlfriend before he then ends his 8 month travels to go home!
Matt and I are now in Bangkok, and just booked our flight to northern Malaysia where we'll be for the next 3 weeks maybe more. We're gonna travel down both coasts hoping from island to island. Seeing as we're water boys we thought we would go check out the islands so many people have raved about! Meant to be some of the best diving as well on the eastern coast, so granny's money will come in handy!
Hope everything is going well. Will give you another update when we get to our next place. Loving the freedom! Deciding last minute where to go is great fun! You never know, you might find out me and Matt are suddenly in south america!
