Varanasi = day 1
My alarm is set for 7am , the train isnt due to arrive until 8.40am but I gather Varanesi isnt the last stop so dont want to miss it. I awake to a very loud noise.....like an animal, i soon realise it is the man on the bunk above me. When did he creep in?!
im surprised but also relieved that I had not seen him before now. this is because he is HUGE and I really would not have wanted to sleep under him. Breakfast is 2 pieces of bread and some some og strange egg thing, which I picked at but didnt really eat. Im all ready to get opff but the smart man (Ghandi lookalike) explains that the train has been delayed so we will be arriving 1hour 30 mins later than planned. I eye him suspisiously but seens as the train isnt stopping I have no choice but to believe him.
When I get off teh train Im instantly hit by the most awful smell, a combibation of sick, piss, s***, sweat, you name it! I hold my breath best I can as I can feel myself close to thowing up. I'm met by a driver with my name on a sign. It is hard to see in teh station as there seems to be a fly and mossie infestation, thinking of my reaction I have to bites I panic a little. there are people everywhere, on the floor, eating sleeping.
Im dropped off at my hotel and we arragnge for me to be collected 2 hours later. The hotel is pretty good and I get a bit over excited at the western bathroom.
Witj the driver we visit 3 Hindu temples and the university, where men and woman are kept seperate! I get blessed in one of teh templed with a red dot on my head. We then move on to a factory to see how silk is made. I become very firm that I will not be buying silk, as I feel another fleece coming on (and I dont mean the kind you go hiking in).
I go back to my hotel and eat there. The food is ok. I call home, mum makes me feel a bit better. I hear England got beat in the cricket. Im not really getting the whole India thing but lets see what the next few days bring.
