The central square or Forum area had many temples and public buildings with grand columned facades and substantial brick buildings. The Forum area is very large and originally all covered in white marble tiles as seen here. It must have been very grand in its day. Mount Vesuvius can be seen in the background with its head in the clouds, still an active volcano ticking away.
