Ready, set, go. The granite blocks were the starting blocks for the 100 yard foot race ?? The entrants put their toes in the grooves to start and off they ran no shoes and for that matter no clothes as all events were undertaken naked. The surface is as you see a dry flinty type track which would be very hard on their feet. This track is in an ancient stadium with only angled grass areas for the seating for spectators much like a slight hill all around the track. Other events were undertaken in separate areas of the town.
