Menton is another beachside town larger than Ville Franche and is very much a tourist town relying on the summer trade to keep the economy running although here there seems to be a lot more business with large shops and marina areas to sustain the town. It is a very pretty area and quite modern outside the old town area with lovely parks and walkways along the shore and marina areas. The town was quite busy when we visited and we thoroughly enjoyed wandering the streets and cafes around the town. The backdrop of the mountains gives an idea of how steep and rugged the area is with some of the past Tour de France stages being raced in the mountains behind Menton.
