Chenonceau
The chateau was used as a hospital during World War1. The owner provided all the beds, equipment and medicines for the wounded soldiers at his own cost. The government paid the salaries of the doctors and nursing staff. History tells us that it was a very successful transformation to a hospital and it was extremely well equipped even having its own Xray equipment for treating the soldiers lodged here. We imagine none would have wanted to leave here to go back to war in the trenches but go they did. There is an exhibition of the days as a hospital which is very interesting to see.
