The Arenas de Barcelona is the old city bullfighting ring built in the 1890s but now turned into a shopping complex as bullfighting was banned in Catalonia the state whose capital is Barcelona. The ring was known as Placa de Toros de les Arenas but was not popular as bullfighting never really caught on in Catalonia with the last bullfight here being in 1977.
