HI there guys. Well we are well on our way into our thailand adventure! After a few days of R and R in Bangkok we jumped on a two hour bus ride to Kanchanaburi. This is where you will find the bridge over river Kwai. We got a nice little guest house, very basic but all we needed. While here we did a one day cooking course. We found out just how easy it is to make nice Thai food. Maybe you might get to try one day! It was a great day and something good to do at the start of the trip. You learn what bits not to eat. After that we went to the tiger temple. I'm still not sure how i feel about this place. They are all tied up and you get to go and pat them while someone takes a photo of you. Some people say that they drug the tigers but i dont think that they do. Cats sleep and thats what these guys were doing. Plus they have been pets since they were a baby so they are just used to it. I think having just done africa it wasn't that great to do. Maybe if we hadn't just been to the places we have been! The next day we went to Erawan National Park. This place was great. It was 2km to the top and on the way there are 7 waterfalls. You could swim in the pool of the waterfall if you wanted to, but keep in mind that the fish will come up to you and give you a 'thai massage'. We also went to the Bridge over river Kwai and had a 30min train ride. It was a good day and nice to get out and do some walking. While there we have been eating from the food vendors. A meal is costing us 50baht for the two of us! Its is just mad, and the food is so good.
After that we got the bus back to bangkok then got an overnight train to Chiang Mai. The train took 14 hours but we got to sleep for about 8 so it wasn't so bad. We haven't seen alot of the flooding but we hear it is bad in the counrty parts. The first day we were here we only had a few hours so we walked around town and found some temples. While walking people would see us with our map looking rather lost so they would just come over and have a chat. Tell you where you should and shouldn't go where to eat and to not buy anything at the night market. Then today we had an adventure day! First of all we rode an elephant for an hour! It was amazing, the big fella knew that the locals sell you banana's to feed them t\so he kept putting his trunk back to get more food! It wa a really funny morning and we had a great time. Then it was off for a trek then some bamboo rafting! It was down a dirty river on a few bits of bamboo! Rather funny and something we will probably never get the chance to do again.
We have one more night here in chiang mai and we here tomorrow the monks have some some of festival on. So we are going to hang around and have a look. We have no idea where we are off to next. We are going to go and try to work that out tonight!
Hope you are all doing well, i'm really looking forward to getting home.
