Argentina has been nothing short of awesome but it all started with a dodgy border crossing in the dark from Bolivia.. needless to say was happy to get to the other side and see the sign 5,000km to Ushaia! Had a real scenic bus ride down to Salta via Jujuy with an Argentinian met at the border before tasting my first of many slabs of local meat.
Salta was serene, I loved walking through the streets on a Sunday afternoon to the sounds of tango and smells of parrillas in the air. Had a great hike up to the top of Cerro San Cristobal via 1070 steps before chilling at the top to fantastic views of the city. Went on a sweet roadtrip with the hostelowner of la Prisamata, Damian, to la Quebrada de San Lorenzo which was real tranquil and picturesque. Had cappuccino in the main square people watching, all that was missing was a copy of la Gazzetta!!
Travelling down to Mendoza was good to see the Andes once again. Stayed in a mint hostel there and met some marvellous friends. Mendoza was pure pimping, dined in an uber posh restaurant as well as doing a real good wine tour which ended with a massive feast of food. The hostel also had a free glass of vino every night as well as free wine tasting, needless to say mucho malbec was consumed!! My waistline is clear evidence of this..!
If Mendoza was pimping BAires was pumping, it was a brilliant combo of culture and clubbing. The first weekend however saw no culture or daylight, just Crobar where I lost all my friends when I looked around at 7am but got to meet Robert Babicz! Saturday at Pacha the main room was hot & heaving so opted for the terrazza, really felt like in Ibiza! We watched the sun rise by the sea and partied on with Argies blasting beats from their cars in the carpark. Didn´t get much sleep prior to going to the Boca match, it cost an arm and a leg and was dodgy as getting in to the ground but was well worth it, mental atmosphere!
Monday we did a trip to Uruguay. Montevideo was dull, dirty & desolate (apparently it comes alive at the weekend). The highlight was seeing the centenary stadium where the first World Cup final took place. Colonia was colourful and laidback, enjoyed that far more and strolled around the cobbled streets prior to catching the short boat back to BAires.
Had a real nice day walking to and around Recoleta where Evita´s grave amongst many others is at. Had another steak with wine, a bit like groundhog day but the meat and wine here is soo good!! Went to two other top notch restaurants, La Quebrera in Palermo where had real good ribeye steak and El Desnivel where had a reet chunky bife de lomo, well lush.
The day trip to Tigre started off with rain but eventually it subsided and we had a good butchers around and enjoyed the boat trip to and from the terminal. It was great to be reunited with a travelling buddy from the Kiwi bus in NZ again also. We went to a cool underground techno club called Cocoliche on the friday night. Whilst at the Milhouse it was Brazilian independence day so multiple parties where had at the hostels as well as what sounded like multiple orgies, turns out it was the porn cinema next door which made showers very entertaining! We went for a real nice meal by Puerto Madero on the saturday, plenty of fun in the sun which banished our hangovers! Had a coffee and cake in the infamous Cafe Tortoni later after which hopped over to Belgrano to check out a tango milonga full of locals in the middle of a park! Seeing the locals dancing made me realise how basic the tango steps had learnt really were!
Saturday night went back to Pacha for an amazing end to BAires, saw Funk D´Void who was on top form ending with the immense Diabla of course. Our taxi took the flaming scenic route home due to the marathon around the city that morning. It was sad to say goodbye to friends we were leaving behind had a great group of us.
Iguazu falls was a very sweet cherry on top of a very very rich Argentinian cake, we had an amazing day out there. The falls were simply majestic & magnificent, will never forget that thunderous roar at la garganta del diablo! Loved being back in the jungle again, seeing hummingbirds and butterflies which landed all over our bodies! It was sad to say goodbye to my friends but ready for the next and last part of this adventure.. Brasil! Looking forward to catching up with friends in Sao Paolo and then meeting my beautiful butterfly in Rio!!
