It has been nearly 10 months since I last saw Jo and Neil so it was brilliant when I arrived and saw them and to also meet their slightly mental dog Meeko that ran round and round in circles for the first 5 minutes I was there but he soon settled and got used to me. We went out for some food and got a lovely surprise when Neil asked me to be one of the head ushers at the big wedding so I get to wear the full wedding kit with tail etc which is all very exciting. I also had a present waiting there from Rad so it almost felt like a mini birthday being able to unwrap a gift!
I had reluctantly promised Jo I would go to one of the yoga classes that she was holding but not being the most flexible of people, actually let me rephrase; being the most inflexible person I was fairly sure I would make a massive fool of myself. Before too long in the hot studio I was sweating buckets as Jo was telling everyone to get into the camel position and various other odd sounding positions. Almost got the giggles a couple of times and held it together and wasn't actually too bad with most of it but there were a few that I found entirely impossible. Jo's influence was already rubbing off and had a blonde moment when it had all finished and she asked how I had found it. 'Oh I really enjoyed it' I said 'but it was a bit hot in there. They should really invest in some decent air-conditioning when they're in Singapore.' 'It's hot yoga you wally Dave. It was heaters making that noise, not bad fans!' Woops
Granny & Grandad had sent a nice present so that we could have a nice meal out so we booked Brunch at the Grand Hyatt for Sunday with free flowing champagne! Had to borrow some of Neil's clothes as not many of mine are suitable for such a posh hotel! We met up with Kelly and her fiance Tom and had an absolute feast there and it was a massively impressive set up helped along by your glass being filled up with more champagne after almost sip. The food was incredible and there was so much of it, all being cooked fresh and almosy any gourmet desires were catered for. Malasian satay were followed by Chinese dim sum before I tucked into a nice salad with a selection of cold meats. A full roast dinner was next complete with dauphenois potatoes and yorkshire pud. There was a huge selection of cheeses so it would be rude not to have a little platter and then it was onto the most amazing looking dessert selection ever! Creme brulee, bread and butter pudding, cheesecake, ice cream, truffles, fruit dipped in a chocolate fountain were a few of the things on my plate!
It almost went very wrong with my inability to burp. The amount of food and the gassy champagne caused my stomach to expand massively, so much so that my shirt was stretched to its limits and the buttons were struggling to hold it together. I literally doubled in size and began feeling quite ill. Some fresh air didnt help but when I suddenly felt very queasy I ran to the toilet, having to ignore a 'cleaning in progress' sign and just made it in before letting out the most enormous belch known to man! Within seconds my stomach was back to normal size, the shirt was loose again, I was feeling fine and everyone at the table was totally baffled by my very strange belly! But a fantastic meal was had so thank-you very much to my lovely grandparents for that and giving me the chance to dress up smart for the first time in a good few months!
Sadly Jo and Neil were committed to work for my last couple of days there but I had a really good time relaxing in their flat, enjoying their gorgeous swimming pool and having a look around some of the big shopping centres. I also cooked a meal for the first time since I've been away and it felt good to be able to cook my own food for a change. I even made it to the zoo one day which couldn't be more different to the Saigon zoo and must be one of the best zoos in the world. None of the animals are in cages there and they all looked in really good condition and it made for a brilliant afternoon.
It was a shame to have to leave Singapore knowing I wouldn't see Jo and Neil for another 5 months but Borneo is calling for my last leg of Asia.
