Carpe Diem
Mumbai
We truly were surprised by how much we loved Mumbai. This former town of 7 fishing villages became the captial of the East Indian Co. and was on the forefront of India's struggle for Independance. It is now home to over 16 million, produces 40% of India's GDP and is the world's largest movie industry.
A beautiful mixture of colonial, islamic and asian architecture is found throughout. Art Galleries set in old palaces, wide sea side boulevard, Gandhi Museum, Bollywood and impromptu cricket matches outside the Court House are all juxtaposed with shanty towns, dhobi ghats and the red light district to name a few. So much to take in in one city.
