A very warm hello from Kanchanaburi!
A region 2 hours west of Bangkok, Kanchanaburi is mainly known for its famous World War II cemetaries and museum and, bien sur, the River Kwai bridge.
This is a very touristy place, though it is not as crowded as we suspect it could get.
The city's main attractions are aligned along the river on a long stretch in 2 neat roads and a myriad of small perpendicular 'soi' (small streets a bit like the London mews).
Going cycling this afternoon, the simple layout of the town should not be too challenging!
Well anyway, riding a bicycle being the national hobby in Ducth country, Django will ride first and I'll simply follow his cute butt around.
Yesterday we embarked on a day excursion, packing in bamboo rafting, elephant riding, and the beautiful Erawan Falls which 7 levels accessing little fresh swimming ponds almost made me reach Nirvana when I got to the top after the hour ascent under a beating sun. Let me just add that Django barely broke a sweat... Nevertheless a fantastic walk up and down the falls and a nice way to put our city-bodies into gear for the trekking part of the trip.
Skipping the monkey school and tiger petting circus, we might just get a few hours paddling in the river before we set off to the North tomorrow night.
Stay with us for the pictures, we are still trying to download some of the Bangkok ones.
A plus!

We crammed all the attractions of Kanchanaburi in a day so you can look at some exciting pictures. From the city to the countryside and from the Hilton to Sam's guest house get's us from vacation into travelling mode. We find our way well around Thailand it is just a challenge to avoid the bloody touts trying to make a buck off every tourist and we are not yet tanned enough to blend in... Also found out yesterday that I never had Thai food before, proper Thai food that is, at the restaurant at the local cooking school. Absolutely fabulous and it goes down remarkably well with a large bottle of Singha. Well Sabine gave some updates already so let me not bore you with repetitions. Let's get the bikes for this afternoon and see if the donkey and carrot trick works (purely figuratively speaking of course though I am worried where the carrot's gonna go). See ya later.
