I finally made it through that vicious bus ride from Baracoa to Santiago, Santiago to Trinidad (where I met a cute norwegian couple!) and Trinidad to Cienfuegos. The Casa particulare that I had of course picked out of the LP did not have any available rooms but my personal jintero ofcourse found me one. Luckily it was his family! Had my best cuban breakfast so far but I think it was partially due to my previous 12-hours-on-the-bus-experience...
Strolled from Punta Gorda(which actually is fantastic!) up to the city centre. It was Sunday so all the places were closed. Looked around the central park and after a while I realised that Cienfuegos is similar to Granada in Nicaragua... The most striking similarities with Nicaland was maybe the heat! On my way to the bus and trainstation I almost died of a heatstroke! And then again when I finally made it to the station, the lady said there were no trains to Santa Clara! On the bus station (which were chaotic) they told me that I had to find a cuban friend to be able to book a ticket with Astro!!! Where are all my cuban male friends when I need them??????????????? Strolled back into town. Bought some buns and met a man on the street. He talked about all the norwegian students in Cienfuegos... Walked back to Punta Gorda and had dinner. Slept for 11 hours...
Headed for the beach: Rancho Luna. A small, quiet and lovely beach. The water was fantastic! When I came back I met an odd fellow. His family had moved to USA before the revolution but they got homesick and brought hime back to Cuba when he was 20. He spoke perfect english but in some was he reminded me of Forrest Gump... In the evening I went to Pizza Nova and had spaguetti!!! Not so good but I was desperate for some variety...
