I realise I haven't writen this in a while and I'm sorry because this'll probs be very long...
So since last time a lot has happened! I am now in my final week working and I have decided that I want to come back for a third contract, but there will 100% NOT be a fourth! Not because I don't like it but I do miss home comforts. Working as an ent host is living up to what I thought it would. There will be days where I am in character for a few hours at a time and I love it. One of my characters is a scientist called Professor Nessa and she likes to make flubber, volcanoes and play around with gasses. She's pretty crazy, she has short spiky grey hair, wonky glasses and lipstick on her teeth, so it's always fun when she has a programme. Another one of my characters is Lesley and she likes to make race cars out of soap and race for the Piston Cup (it's from the movie Cars). I'm trying this week to take as many photos as I can and some videos of the programmes so you can see what they all look like.
It's very strange doing programmes for the kids because although I am acting, it's not what I'm used to. There is no rehearsal time, 90% of the time you are on stage alone and there is NEVER a fourth wall so you always have to be prepared to change what you are doing according to what's going on around you. This made my first couple of weeks quite challenging with a few of the programmes. Particually 'A Pirates Life For Me'. This is a game show that two ent hosts host on pirate night in a venue called Studio Sea. We have a script but we also invite kids onto the stage as teams to compete for the 'pearl'. The first time I did it I didn't really have a clue so Silly Billy had to carry the show! Most of the time you will not repete the same programme in the same week so once I had done that pirate show I had to wait another week to give it a second shot! Now I am very comfortable in it and it's definatly something I look forward to every week. A few weeks ago I hosted Pirates for the teens and the next night it was Piston Cup and one of the boys told Lesley (me) a joke that pirate Roley Poley Joely (me) had told him the night before - that made my evening!
We've had some good crew events recently. We had the Crew awards where we nominated and voted for people in all departments to win an award for being the best at what they do. It was a formal night and it was really nice. They transformed the mess so we had really good food and then we all went to the theatre with a glass of champain to watch the ceremony and then we went to the crew bar. We also had a late night Key West which basically meant we could stay off the ship untill early in the morning, and just last night we had a movie night in the club. Tomorrow we have a party in Vibe for all the entertainment team so that'll be good too!! So although I work hard, I do play hard too!
So right now I'm in St Marteen and it's just finished raining. The weather recently has been crazy! The other week it was RIDIC! We had about 20 kids sick in our space and we had to tape all the cupboards and drawers shut because they were opening by themselves. We had our storage room jamed shut because the filing cabinet and photocopyer slid up against the door!! People who have worked on the ship for years said they had never experienced anything like it!! And it lasted 3 days, it wasn't nice at all, even I couldn't sleep - you know there's a problem when I can't sleep! But hopefully the bad weather has come to an end now beacuse next week I'M CRUISING! Oh man, I'm so excited to be a guest! It's going to be super relaxing and I'm going to be able to eat all the food that I'm not normally allowed to eat! Joely and I are doing the Western Caribbean route which goes to Key West, Cozumel, Grand Caymen and Castaway Cay. And apparently after this cruise the ship isn't allowed to dock in Key West again, and it's my favourite port so it'll be nice to have spend a whole day there :D
We had a trick or treat trail for the guests yesterday where we all had to dress up and hand out candy. I don't like halloween so I wasn't looking forward to it but I was lucky because my costume was a superhero instead of a witch, and I didn't have to give the candy I just greeted guests! It's strange how into halloween the Americans get and it's not all about being scary - I saw lots of princesses, ballet dancers and animal costumes! But some of the adults are waaaaaay too into it! On special occasions, like the transatlantic cruise and halloween there is a villians ball where all the baddies come and dance with the guests, so I'm looking forward to dancing with Cruella next week!
My plans for the next few weeks are - cruising for a week as a guest, then I go to New York with Jess (my roomie), and then I fly home on Nov 12th via Frankfurt and land on Nov 13th at 9.30am! Then after that I don't know what's going to happen because I had a skype audition just over 2 weeks ago with an acting company in Manchester and I'm still waiting to hear if I got that job or not. If I get it I start on Nov 14th and I'll be in Manchester untill Dec 21st! Then I fly back to Orlando on Jan 6th for my third contract!
So there's a brief update about all the things that have been happening...this contract seems to have flown by, and it's been a good one :D
