After an inadvertently long final night in Hong Kong, Deven and I woke up feeling less than awesome for our 1 hour and 45 minute flight to Hanoi, Vietnam. Having said that, a HUGE thank you to Alea for giving us the skinny on Hong Kong activities, dining and nightlife. Our first night in Hong Kong, Deven and I went to an unbelievable restaurant per Alea's recommendation, Oohlaa and on our final night we witnessed the worlds largest laser show on a gorgeous terrace overlooking the city located at yet another restaurant recommended by Alea, Sevva. Leaving Sevva, we had dinner at Tokyo Joes and walked across the street to a bar called Beruit, where we ran into a couple of guys from Vanderbilt who knew a good friend of mine, Woody Klemmer. Don't worry Woody, if you're reading this--they only had good things to say... ;) After Beruit we went to a club at the top of the main eating and drinking area, Lan Kwai Fong. The club--Dragon I--was very international and we stayed there for quite some time in an effort to dance ourselves tired and adjust to the time difference, which I clearly am having trouble with seeing as it is now 3:55am.
Leaving Hong Kong, we arrived in Hanoi, which was bustling with millions--literally millions of men, women, children and practically everything else you could ever imagine on scooters. According to our tour guide, there are about 400 million scooters in the city of Hanoi and only approximately 700,000 cars, which should put things into perspective. Whats also interesting about the people of Hanoi and their scooter usage is the fact that they pile those things with "everything but the kitchen sink." Literally--and I'm sue if they needed to transport their kitchen sink, they would do so by scooter, so I'm not sure how reliable that statement is. For example, we saw a woman with FOUR, I repeat FOUR children (not so little children) on one scooter. They pile those things with everything from multiple baby chick cages to dead animals (one on each side). You name it, they find a way to pack those bad boys in.
More information to come.... You stay classy San Diego and thanks for stopping by
