So we rent a campervan for 5 days and off we go, no plans no maps just direction Great Ocean Road.
Luckily we found a great tourist info that told us all the hotspots and gave us plenty of maps.
On our first day we went to Turkey as denise called, we watched surfers and enjoyed the bad weather haha, then we drove to aireys inlet where we went to the light house and had a nice cup of tea. We then drove to moggs creek where we did 1 hour trekking in the rain which was nice, after we drove to lorne and stayed up in the rainforest at a free camping sight.
We woke up the next day no clue as to where we were on the map and just drove. Eventually we found our way to the erskine falls were we went off the beaten trekk and just followed the waterfall stream along, it was so beautiful and peaceful then we drove to apollo bay where we had kangaroo for lunch and went down the pier to have a look. We also stopped at kennet river where there was plenty of koalas and multi coloured parrots, we fed the parrots and ooohd and aaahd at the koalas. Along the drive we stopped many times to take a look at the breath taking view of the beautiful ocean. After we drove the road continued a bit inland and we drove up and down hills and through rainforest it was extreemly beautiful. We did a trekk called shells beach and another one called maits rest, which was a diferent type of rainforest. We then drove down to the cape otway lighthouse which was closed but luckily as it was getting darker the koalas were waking up and we got to watch them, some were dangling from the trees others were lazying around in branches and one was just eating away hahaa. Once it got dark we drove up to melbas gully were we saw glow worms, that was pretty incredible. We slpet at johannas beach which was also in the middle of nowhere.
The next morning we woke up to kangaroos hopping around in the fields then we took a stroll down the beach and off we went agaiiin. :) We drove a long long way and finally got to the gibson stepps, were you walked down to the beach to see the first 2 of the 12 apostles, it was beautiful and we were all alone, as it was half raining and half sunny there were rainbows behind the apostles and the view was awesome. After we stopped at the 12 apostles view point it was cool to see the still standing apostles, the ones that had crumbled away and to see the beggining of the formation of another one. We also saw other rock formations like london bridge, the grotto, the loch ard gorge, the myrter bay and bay of islands. We then drove on to warnamboll where we had mcdonalds and relaxed. After we drove to tower hill, a dorment volcano, it was now a national park which you could drive through, there we saw loads of kangaroos just hopping around and emus. We climbed up to the top of the volcano and made a friend which we named clumbsy the kangaroo, because we watched him try to eat and it was hillarous the way he tried to reach the branches and failed or when he finally got one and it then slipped out of his hands haha. After tower hill we drove back on ourselves all the way tolake elizabeth which was in Forrest (the town named forrest)
That morning we woke up as the sun came up and walked down to the lake hoping to see platapuses. We sat by the lake for 20 minutes, it was the most quiet and peaceful place we had seen so far and it was beautiful. We never saw any platypuses but denise swears she could here one swimming. After lake elizabeth we drove through the tightest windiest and most amazing road through the otway rainforest. It felt like it went on forever and you would never leave the jungle. Eventually we got to the otways sky walk, which was a built site were you could walk up in the tree tops, like 20 metres or so above the ground. Denise got really scared and finished very quickly but josh enjoyed it very much, it was like a child opening present on christmas day :) After the otways tree top walk we went to the triplet falls, were josh did the hike on his own only to come back and dragg denise with him.. it was very beautiful, 3 waterfalls all in one. After we drove to anglesea and just parke don the side of the road to sleep cause we couldnt find the place where we wanted to go.
Our last morning we woke up saw kangaroos hopping away, stopped at a cafe had a nice breakfast and then drove to the anglesea golf course were aparently there are 100 kangaroos, but we sadly couldnt see any cause we werent allowed on the golf course, we could only drive aound it. We managed to see one named kelly ( most probably the cutest kangarooo ever) and we saw some in the distance. After we drove back to melbourne and dropped of our beloved campervan.
Great ocean road was amazing and we would definatly do it again.
