After blessing our families and respective countries, the leader of this village conducted an ancient ritual cleansing our spirits and thereby giving us permission to enter their sacred Cenotes - underground caves. It was quite sobering being a tourist in what was a small window into a way of life which I hope survives any further destruction of Mayan rainforests.
