Our stay in Bogota ends today...and we finished it with a walk up Cerro de Monserrate, 1500 steps up the mountain taking us about 1hr and 10min.
Our week was full of adventure with a walking tour of the museums while Andy and Debbie stayed over the weekend. We then set off to Zipaquira by city bus to explore the Salt Cathedral. It took us about 2hrs by bus with a transfer along the way. We had live music on the first bus - wouldn't fly in Ottawa...but a great way to start the trip out of the city! On the way back we got a little lost (all good mum ;) as we hopped off the bus too early. The Bogota bus system is not for amateurs while it is efficient you need to know your stuff before starting out! A young student noticed that we seemed to be reading maps and bus stop postings so took us under her wing to guide us along.
We had read about a bike tour of Bogota so heading off for an afternoon ride, and even got a helmet on Frank! The interesting part of Bogota is that they promote biking for the city with a Sunday Bike day - closing down several streets for families to ride together - as well as several bike lanes for commuters. You definitely need to keep your wits about you. We visited a few historical spots, with our guide Daniel asking us if we watch Narcos - guess we need to start! As well as a fruit market and coffee roastery. The city is covered with graffiti - not helpful for the type of rider I am!
We head for Quito tonight on a midnight flight - stay tuned!
