A short drive south from LA landed us in San Diego, home of Sea World!! We only had a short time here so we picked a nice hostel in the middle of the historic Gas Lamp District. Our first afternoon was spent relaxing and people watching (unfortuntely the weather had turned on us and it rained a little). But after the hectic life in LA it was nice to slow down a bit! In the evening we walked around the Gas Lamp District and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere.
The best day was the sunday and what we had come for..... SEA WORLD!!! We headed off early as we were expecting queues however we were pleasantly suprised to find it was actually quite quiet! We started on the rides: first off was Journey to Atlantis, then on to Arctic Ice, where we saw white whales and polar bears. Next stop was "Believe", the Killer Whale show with SHAMU (I've not seen him since I was about 5!), quite cheesy but all good fun! Rapids were next up where I got soaked (Dave somehow stayed dry, could be to do with the fact he stole the poncho!), followed by the Dolphin show (staring Dolly the Dolphin) and then the Aquariums. One of the funniest shows was the sea lion show with Clyde and Seamore and a big fat walrus! From here we checked out the Penguins and then somehow landed ourselves a free limited edition Budwiser beer (though I was driving so Dave went back for mine!)! With a couple hours to kill before one of the evening shows, we headed to the pets show followed by the dolphin show(again!) and a quick peruse around the shops! The last stop of the day was the evening sealion show which was the funniest thing ever! It took the micky out of all the other shows, especially the cheesy "Believe" show, to make a very entertaining finish to the day! Dave's day was complete when due to a lack of cheap alternatives we were "forced" to eat at Hooters (yet again!)!
The following morning, as it was very nice weather, we took a stroll to Balboa Park (where San Diego Zoo is) before setting off on the next leg of our road trip.
