And so we reach the end of our trip to Japan. We've finished off our last couple of days in Tokyo before flying out of Narita on the 21st March to Shanghai.
Monday morning we set out for the local fishmarket. The place is filled with hundreds of different types of fish, freshly caught and the smell in the air won't let you forget that. We tip toed around the different stalls avoiding puddles of ice and fish juice and trying to figure out what we were looking at. There was plenty of lobsters, octopus/squid, giant crabs and huge shell fish, most of which was still alive and moving around. we got lots of interesting pictures and watched the nearby restaurants preparing the fish that had just been caught.
We continued the fish theme and spent the afternoon at an aquarium looking at the different aquatic life. The centre was on a reclaimed island on the outskirts of Tokyo and we entered via a dome that took you underground. We walked round the different tanks looking at hammerhead sharks, crabs with 20 inch leg spans and all shapes, sizes and colours of fish. The last stop was an outdoor tank with penguins. After another time-consuming trip on a subway we arrived at Pallette town, which was like a minature Trafford Centre with a ferris wheel. We also took a train out to the rainbow bridge after dark, when it was all lit up and we took some good pictures from across bay (photos to follow).
For our final day we went to the very busy Shibuya, where the streets are crammed with people. Crossing the road was difficult as hundreds of people tried to cross all at once in different directions. We browsed shops and walked around a huge park. We then moved on to Tokyo Dome City, an amusement park. The biggest rollercoaster was under maintenance so we couldn't ride it and settled for pancake and icecream instead.
After 21 days of Japan we are now ready for China!
