Had a beautiful and easy ride on Bear Tooth Pass from Cooke City to Red Lodge. There is no surprise that it is called "one of America's Best Drives". While it was two lanes, it was wide and had guard rails and I was rather desensitized from Mt. Washburn so it wasn't scary.
The mountain range we were on was created by upheaval and glaciers while the mountain range we were staring at (Shoshone?) was volcanic. While all that happened probably several million years apart, it felt eerie and mysterious. At the peak of Bear Tooth we were 11.000 feet above sea level and it was very alpine with the wildflowers above the tree line.
We arrived at the Bowman's earlier than expected. I still have the propensity to drive 10 miles above the speed limit and have become very skilled in passing. (You can't take the Yankee out of the girl). Liam spent the better part of the afternoon trying to buy a fishing license from the Tru Value Hardware clerk...but to no avail. We didn't have his social security number and the guy was being uncooperative. I got involved, got frustrated and wondered what the fine would be if you got caught fishing without a license. Liam did try to fish but the water was running so high there really wasn't any point in it so they quit early and no one got arrested.
We ended the evening with a lovely cookout and fire in the fire pit to roast marshmallows. A good time was had by all and I thank Rachel, Roger, Graham and Shaw for having us.
We were all a little slow moving the next day but found, yet another, place to go horseback riding and this time we had a little more freedom and the guides were interesting. One was Native American (Cheyenne) and the other Caucasian and a life long resident of Montana. They both could trace their lineage back to the Homesteading days and had great stories.
The good news is that there is very limited internet access and no cable tv so everyone is forced to read or play games outside. What a concept!
