So, as I said there would be a big delay in updating the site but I have put up a load of photo's and videos from the trip as I now have a little laptop to sort all of my s*** out which is a lot easier than having to wait to find internet access.
My time with Jess in Michigan was a lot of fun, for those who don't know I met Jess in Oz 4 years ago and we have kept in contact ever since so it was amazing to see her again and catch up on old times. Jess picked me up from the airport and we went out to dinner with her boyfriend Dan and had a few drinks as we caught up. By the time we got home Jess's roommate colleen had drawn me a little welcome note which was really sweet and we had a couple of drinks before heading off to bed. Jess explained that she had some cool stuff planned for the week ahead but that t was pretty weather dependant so we had to wait and see. The next day we went round to Jess's mums house to do some much needed laundry and to chill out which was much needed after the busy few weeks I'd had over the last few weeks. Jess made us all dinner that night and we had a lovely steak (again much needed home cooking to replace the unhealthy s*** I had been eating) Jess had a big rock band night planned so she had a few of her friends round and we had some drinks and played rock band all night which was great fun (did get embarrassed a little bit as they were all awesome and I was well a work in progress) jess has got a great group of friends and they were all very nice and made me feel really welcome.
The following day, poor Dan had to be up early for work and we all had sore heads after drinking a lot the night before. Me, Jess and Colleen were up late and headed over to an old school american diner for some breakfast (well it was about half 12 so more lunch) and then headed back to the apartment and I caught up on my last blog while jess did some uni work. That night we all went out to dinner and met up with some more of jess's friends which was cool as they were all really nice as well they all thought it was hilarious that even though I'd come over to the states I'd ordered fish and chips (colleens fault for making a joke about it at the diner earlier) . The dinner was good (hadn't had fish for ages) and we had a few drinks it was a really nice evening. We headed back and watched a parody movie of the star wars movie by seth macfarlane called Robot Chicken wars which was f***ing hilarious - definitely recommend it. The next day we were heading off to the baseball which I was well excited about as I was hoping to catch (no pun intended) a game while I was out here. We had a bit of a lazy day during the day which was good as it was good to catch up on my sleep. We grabbed some gorgeous ice cream from this little store on the way that Jess knew and went to pick up Leslie (one of Jess's friends who was joining who I met the night before - absolutely hilarious guy) and headed down to tiger stadium! Tiger Stadium was a really nice stadium and the atmosphere was really good - even if the beer was a tad expensive. I had picked up a few of the rules while I have been out here but I still didn't quite get it. That changed pretty quickly as everyone explained what it all meant and you do really get into the game while your there. I suppose it's the same as cricket not so much fun watching on tv but great fun when your there. The bonus was as well that the tigers won with a a home running in the final inning!! We headed from the stadium to meet some of jess's college friends in a brewery nearby which was quiet by the time we got there so we had a quick drink and headed to the same bar we went to on the first night which is nearer to jess house. We also got some much needed snack food as we didn't really eat apart from a hot dog of course. It was a quality day/evening and we all got pretty drunk as well which always helps!!! No surprise that we were up pretty late the next day as we were all hanging and spent most of the day feeling sorry for ourselves eating tortilla chips and humus and playing rock band - something that I have not had the chance to do since I have been away was to just relax and n ot worry about being somewhere/doing something which was really good. Jess cooked up a gorgeous peach cobbler which was unbelievably good with a bit of ice cream. The weather had been pretty bad up north where we had hoped to have gone up to so that plan had been scrapped but I was glad as it meant that we were never really rushing around anywhere and could really just kick back. My final day in Michigan we headed down to where Jess and Dan went to university which was pretty impressive as much like most of the things in the states it was just like a nice campus here but much bigger. The lady who donated the land for the college had a big stately home type mansion there which we had a look around and she had a purpose built life sized doll house for her 12 year old daughter which was pretty freaky as it was like a little house for midgets!! We headed over to a nearby brewery to try some different types of beers which was good , I am turning into a bit of a beer connoisseur even if I can't remember the names of half of them!! I showed jess and dan how to play pool (yeah right I won one game but got a bit of a beat down the rest of the time). We headed back to the flat and watched a movie - it was a pretty somber mood as it was really good to see Jess again and meet her friends and family and I was sad to leave her, Dan, Colleen and Michigan but the sunny lures of California awaited and I had to catch my flight to San Diego. Hopefully Jess and Dan will be able to make it out to Oz (or the UK) so I can repay their hospitality! I'll add on the blog from my road trip with Hector (my friend who I also met in Oz four years ago) soon. Hope you are all doing well and life is treating you good. Take care.
