Josh and I up at the crack of dawn for a day long trip to Xichen Itzá "chicken pizza" the Mayan capital & a world heritage site.
Stopped at a cenote on the way and went for a swim :)) The rivers are all underground in this part of the world so down a 100 ft hole in the ground we clambered and jumped in! It was like something out of an Indiana Jones movie with lots of fish and vine roots trailing down into the water.
Xichen Itzá was stunning, quite amazing and very old. Some of the pyramids are 2000BC !! City of 50,000 and mostly still unexplored... but we were warned not to wander off into the jungle on account of the poisonous snakes and spiders the size of your hands, so we avoided temptation ;-)
Great day but it rained for the 3&1/2hours back to the hotel. El said it had rained for most of the day at the coast so picked the right day to go.
