Well, my ?Gran Adventura? in South America is coming to an end as I enter my last week in Argentina. In the last 2 weeks, I?ve experienced the extreme highs and lows of both the Argentinian and Brazilian fans as they both first won through to the quarter finals and then both went out in unexpected defeats. To say that Buenos Aires went into a state of shock after the German defeat is an understatment and watching Brazil go out of the competition with hundreds of Brazilians in the biggest Brazilian club in Buenos Aires truly was an experience. The drums, dancing (dancing girls!), singing & caiparinhas were as important as the football and even after they lost, the party continued - those folk can dance, and foolish is the stiff-hipped paddy who thinks he can keep up with them!
My travels had a special guest appearance for 10 days as Amma joined me for an impromtu trip from London and together we partied away in clubs till the wee hours, cheered for Ghana against the USA and Brazil and ate approximately half a cow between us. Btw "ama" means "loves" in Spanish and "gana" means "win" so we had fun with wordplay!
I?ve just visited the amazing Iguazu falls located on the frontier between Argentina and Brazil. They put Niagara to shame! Their setting amongst a vast rain forest is spectacular and the sheer size and power of the falls takes your breath away.
Quick parting note and word of warning for any unweary gringo in Buenos Aires - watch out for the dog s***!
